After being a business owner for many years, the one thing I never attained is my college degree. I quit (for health reasons) after 1 semester. After being out of school for 19 years, I found an online community college and was able to transfer those credits to Indiana State Univ. which had a Degree Link program where I earned my BS in ...

Anyone can read through any of the numerous blogs on this site and find a thousand reasons to go back to school. The convenience of distance learning, the opportunity for advancement, achieving personal goals, and learning something new are just a few of the reasons. At some point I realized that there is another significant reason ...

The stigma associated with online degrees still exists. What really bothers me when I hear of people (hiring managers, etc…) not giving due credence to the efforts of an online degree student, I can only think that this is because they are not aware that the online program is the same as the on-campus program.

Every time I read a story about online degree programs gaining in popularity, I believe that what we’re doing here at eLearners really matters! I also believe that you (the reader of this site and these blogs) are in a fantastic position to gain knowledge from the experience I’ve had, as well as the adventures of our other ...

Good afternoon Scott.
My name is Julius. I am a recently-enrolled student at Kaplan online. I am desperately seeking knowledge, information, or to be pointed in the right direction in regards to acquiring some useful study guides or references in completing this business degree. While I have many strengths and currently am an employee of the ...

As I sit here at 4:08am, I am pondering my educational future. Why am I up at 4:08am, you ask? I am doing homework for my marketing class. I don’t like the fact that I am up this late, but it has given me some opportunity to think about what to do next with my educational aspirations. One thing is certain. There ...

If a company hires a person for a specific job and finds out later that their degree was obtained fraudulently, whose fault is it? Apparently fraudulent degrees are still making news. I have to point to the employer if anyone is to be blamed.
There are tools and resources available to determine if a degree is real or not. ...

I usually get about 2-3 notes a week from people who have seen my blog here and want more specific information on distance learning. A couple of the messages I’ve received have been unintelligible and I was pretty much unable to answer them based on the information provided. I recently received another one that I can’t ...

There are a lot of great things going on in distance education. I’ve written a lot in the past about the legitimacy of online education in the eyes of some people who may not have a complete grasp on how it works, how it is regulated and accredited, how the coursework is presented, or how popular it is with working adults.
One of ...

A great load was lifted off of my shoulders last night around midnight. My team completed our final group project in Managerial Finance. I was really looking to get this class behind me. Now we have a week off and I intend on playing catch-up here at eLearners. We will start with some fan mail I received ...

The plague otherwise known as a diploma mill is a topic that I have not addressed in a while. I receive news every day having to do with diploma mills because as someone who has been afforded a great opportunity in online/distance education, it really bothers me when (1) People take advantage of others for the sake of money and (2) people ...

Jack Welch (former CEO of GE) was quoted by saying that sure, he would hire someone with an online business degree and he said sure, if the person was smart and talented enough. He went on to clarify by saying that a person with an online degree who works all day and studies online at night has the kind of 'grrr' most companies can ...

I saw your post on your Kaplan University experience. I was wondering if you had any problems with them at all. Also, when you left Kaplan, did your credits transfer to the other college fine? And do employers look at the degree favorably.
Thanks for the comments. I had little to no problems with Kaplan. Other than one rogue ...

This is one of the better pieces of fan mail I've received. I hope everyone enjoys it!
I enrolled in Kaplan University in December 2007. I am pleased with the level of interaction from the professors so far and their knowledge base. I have never had a professor ignore my questions. I am truly engaged in the courses and I am ...

The Economist Magazine recently came out with their ratings for online MBA programs. Unfortunately, all but two of the schools that are in the top 10 are outside the United States (University of Florida and Thunderbird). The good thing is that someone has finally got the ball rolling on evaluating some of the online MBA schools. ...
