  • Fan Mail from Jan

I did read your blog and the experiences you wrote about regarding Kaplan University.  I wanted to share with you that I am just starting out with my education in IT (Web Development).  However, I wanted to ask you how your overall experience with Kaplan was.  Was it worth it? How the rest of the world and employers receive you with ...

  • Your Ignorance is Blinding and Embarrassing

I almost wanted to throw up yesterday.  Yeah, it sounds like “too much information”.  But I was so angry and miffed that nausea was the default response to what happened to me.  Here is the short version of what happened. Last week, a very nice recruiter contacted me and did a 30-minute phone screen for a really good ...

  • Re: American Public University (APU)

Erisca - I think I see what's going on here.  The confusion appears to be over semester hours vs. quarter hours. Basically, I think you are comparing apples and oranges. When a school operates on quarter system, rather than semster system, then you are looking at approximately 180 quarter hours for a bachelor's degree.  ...
  • Kaplan or Capella?

Hello All, I have a question.  I have currently been taking online classes since 2006.  I started with Colorado Technical University (CTU), and went for an ASIT degree.  I obtained it in June of last year (08).  I became enfatuated with the Networking side of IT while there so I started looking into schools that offered ...
  • A Question About Kaplan

I am now on my way to my doctorate degree.  Yet I still get fan mail and questions about my undergraduate experience at Kaplan.  This makes me happy because it tells me that people are using their resources to find a school that is right for them.  Keep the questions coming!  I am happy to answer them. Firstly, I would like to ...

  • Is It Real?

I received an e-mail the other day from a fan who evidently reads my blog.  The email was short and to the point.  It simply asked if my degree from Kaplan University was real, or were they a diploma mill. I was not sure what to think.  In one of those rare moments where I was not sure what to say to such as question, I just ...

  • Fan Mail From Brandon

Scott, I read your blog and was looking for reviews of Kaplan by Alumni. I have not found much information and I have a few concerns. I would like to attend Kaplan for IT Network Administration, but I do not want to pay for a school if the degree is not going to be taken seriously by future employers. I know they are accredited but have you ever ...

  • Fan Mail From Lynne

Hi Scott, I ran across your name/website when researching Kaplan University.  I am a semi-professional photographer (I have to say that because I do make a little money through photography) and was impressed by your work! My question to you, though, is this:  what was your experience with Kaplan University?  How have you perceived ...

  • MBA Grad Looks Back on Studies at Kaplan University

Three years ago, 43-year-old Janice Barnwell began her MBA course work at Kaplan University. Shortly after starting her program, she learned she was pregnant. "It's been difficult, to say the least," she remarks, laughing. "It was a challenge, but I was excited about my pregnancy and my MBA." Today, she holds a Master of ...

  • Interview with Nursing Grad Student: "It's never too late."

"I was really unsure how I was going to do. I've been surprised," remarks Katherine Getchel of her academic success at Kaplan University. The 47-year-old graduate student is studying online to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree, with a focus in nursing education. Katherine earned her RN-to-BSN degree in 2008. Just months ...

  • Kaplan University Writing

Hi my name is Michal, 3rd yr student at Kaplan.  I'd like to know if anyone has taken a reflective writing course? Have you used the Course Page Journal and interacted with the instructor with the Course Page Journal?  I'm working on a project and I'm conducting a brief survey. Thanks  Michal

  • Kaplan on Television

Things must be going well at Kaplan University.  The school where I earned my Associates degree and my Bachelors degree seems to be branching into online advertising.  I was watching the latest episode of NCIS that I had recorded on my DVR the other night and while fast-forwarding through the commercials, I see the Kaplan logo flash in ...

  • Kaplan? Hmmm maybe not!

Had a really tough time with their advisors. I did not find them to be very reasonable. Charged me twice for the same class. What is one to do? I guess chalk it up to a lesson learned and do a better job at identifying a good school. Wish me luck.
  • Walden vs. Kaplan vs. U of Phoenix

I am a 40 year old professional who always managed to get by without having a degree. I'm now finding it not only necessary to have a degree to move forward, but it's always been a goal that I've put off time and again. I have no prior college experience and would prefer to an online program. I'm looking for a BSBA and have ...
  • Fan Mail From Abiola

I was so glad when I came across your blog. I have been doing extensive research about Kaplan University. And I came across your blog. I have an A.O.S in Hospitality Management and Kaplan is willing to accept my credits and place me as a junior in their Advanced start General Business Program. I would like to attend Kaplan, but I heard horror stories of their financial aid and ...

  • Re: Financial Aid Question

Not sure about the transferring part. It appears that transfer of credits depends on the college. At least that was my experience. Have you tried a CitiAssist loan through Citibank? I used them as a supplemental loan and they are rather easy to qualify for.

  • Boston University vs. Kaplan

I would like to know if anyone gone or is attending Boston University or Kaplan University majoring in criminal justice.  I already know that there is a difference in tuition; what I want to know is your experience at any one of these schools.  Thank you.
  • Fan Mail From Angel

Scott, I've read your post on Elearners.com about your experience in Kaplan.   I'm 32, out of school since 1993, looking to get a BS in Business with Finance or Accounting. There are so many online schools out there that it can get overwhelming at times, besides your comments, I've many online with lots of people ...

  • Fan Mail From Deb Regarding APA Format

This is a great piece of fan mail from Deb about APA format.  I am not sure about the school you go to, but both Kaplan University and Norwich University require that students use APA format for writing papers. I got your name from elearners. I have also read your blogs. I have learned a lot from you. The one blog that caught my eye ...

  • Fan Mail From Gina

Below is a piece of fan mail I received from Gina.  It raises a good question that should be answered about degrees being “accepted”. Hi, Scott.  I just graduated from Kaplan University and I have read on the Internet that their degrees are not recognized in California. Do you know if that is true? How much research did ...

A family member just started classes with Kaplan University. I've found many negative comments about Kaplan on the internet. What does ...

  • Norwich is Cool!

One of the many cool things about Norwich is at the beginning of every class all students receive a phone call from the professor to discuss the upcoming term, expectations, and any other concerns that may arise.  I know this may seem trivial to some, but it’s important to me.  For all the good things I’ve said in the past ...
