Hello, I am a student taking classes through Axia College of the University of Phoenix (Associates through Axia, and then onto UoP for my Bachelors)
I have been looking for discussion groups or forums specific for Axia/UoP and have not found any, so here I am.
Can a board be created specific for Axia/UoP, or can someone point me in the ...

I am considering taking the MSC in Adult education at the uop. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone that has taken the program.

scaredrain: There are some hangups to UOP, some employers wont accept a degree from UOP and have put that in their job descriptions, that UOP or Devry graduates need not apply. I have never seen a job description that specifically stated that certain college grads need not to apply. One can only assume that the company has gotten ...

Has anyone completed their AA through Axia? I went to the UOP's business program and did not like the group work. I want to make sure Axia is a different experience.

It’s been a while since I’ve had some fan mail. I’ve received two this week. The first one is posted below.
"Scott, I have read most of your blog, however if you mind, I would like to ask you a couple questions and would love your honest reply. I did my undergrad at UOP, and am considering Norwich. If you had to ...

I am an online learner since March of 2007. I went with AIU and started out fine. Then came an issue with the college algebra class and because of some technical problems and some problems with the lack of support from them, I had to repeat the class. They wanted to tack on another $2,000 to my tuition. That ...

I graduated high school 8 years ago and then because of things going on in my life I didn’t go to college. I have no college credits. I’m kind of stuck at home taking care of family and having limited transportation. I want to get a Bachelors in Science in tourism and Hospitality Management. Is it possible to get all ...

I am enrolled at University of Phoenix. I would recommend that no one goes their on line because they lose paperwork then they tell you that you need to do it again. They did this to me yesterday I submitted a form to drop a class over a month ago and now they are telling me that I never submitted it correctly, they told me I need to ...

Hi everyone,
I would like to get my Bachelor's of Science in Health Services Administration from Drexel University. http://www.drexel.com/Online-degrees/healthcare-degrees/bs-hsa/index.aspx

Something to note - UOP's sticker price is high, however, for those whose employers will pick up the tab (remember, UOP is regionally accredited and offer degrees in a variety of career-oriented fields), the issue of cost is less important. For those who are going totally out-of-pocket, UOP can be less attractive.
-
That is exactly why I am grateful for this site. I certainly wouldn't choose to pay over 30 grand for my AAS. I will pay around 20 grand for my BACHELORs at Peru State. To say UOP is pricy is an understatement. What I found here, however, was a great group of people whom were supportive.
Good luck!

Geo,
Have you looked at online classes from traditional schools?
Here is a blog about UoP.

Thanks for all the replies in this thread.
For me deciding to choose any online program isn't about whether or not the public's perception is fair. It doesn't matter if it’s fair.
Once your looking for work or applying to another university for grad school all that will matter is the reality of perception in the eyes of the ...
-
Yes, Kizmet explained it nicely - "even if it's just a perception" (of University of Phoenix being a not-so-good school), thats what I was getting at. I'm sure the program is great for some people, but I honestly believe its just looked at a little "differently" by most people.

Hi zonie - I don't know a lot about U of P but what I do know makes me look elsewhere. First, I think it's too expensive. This is especially true if even a few people think it's a substandard school. If you're going to pay top dollar then the product should be beyond reproach. It's possible that U ...
-
Facetious...not to put too fine a point on things, but would you care to qualify your opinion on UofP being viewed as a joke? I don't have a dog in this fight one way or another but I will tell you from personal experience, I know more than 1 UofP grad working in govt. and in the private sector in jobs of substantial responsibility, whose work ...

The question wasn't "should" it be viewed as a joke. Thats not the point, of COURSE it IS viewed as a joke. I'm sorry, but there are so many other schools that are online to attend that people won't roll their eyes at when you mention it. I personally would rather go to a school that is a little ...
-
I think what you are seeing here is a group of unbiased opinions vs. the horrid insults on other sites. While we are all entitled to our own opinion, I don't think UOP is viewed as a joke. I chose not to attend there for a few reasons. First and foremost was cost. Had I not found this site, I would be starting my corses ...
