It lists a number of cost-cutting devices for these perilous financial times including online learning.

No, they are not talking about higher education. They are referring to the many online K-12 schools now available that are free. Some are charter schools and some are run by state departments of education, but there are now bunches of them. I know that my site lists 131 free online high schools alone (and I don't even list the K-8 schools!). That's a bunch.

For those of us with a vested interest in online learning, this article is a wonderful thing. Why? Because it's not about online learning. That was just one piece of it. Perhaps online learning is coming of age.

Tom Nixon

http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com

Re: Hello!

Steve is exactly right about finding programs with dual enrollment, so that you could get both high school and college credit. Two for the price of one is always a good deal. One school that does offer such a thing is the University of Missouri High School, but there are certainly others.

Tom Nixon

http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com

Can i top up a dimploma with a masters?

Hi,

I'm 22 yrs old, and working in the HR dept for a local company in Dubai. I wanted to know if there's any way I can do an online dimploma course (online/correspondence - preferably in human resources/public relations) within 1.5 yrs and top it up with a masters degree? If yes, which colleges give that option, because I dont want to do a 3 yr degree course.

Also, is there any college that gives the option to do a degree within 1.5 yrs? Please let me know which colleges are good, and affordable.

Thanks,
Shradha.

Re: Online High School

In my opinion, going with Penn Foster or Ashworth University High School are both better choices than getting a GED. Both Penn Foster and Ashworth are regionally accredited high schools. The online part doesn't even come into play. Either would be acceptable (and likely more acceptable than a GED) to colleges.

Tom Nixon

Best Online High Schools

Re: Online High School

Any online high school with regional accreditation should be acceptable to most colleges. More than a few people have found it helpful to buy both. I own both. They are different books. It seems to me that the goals of the readers are different.

Tom Nixon

http://www.bestonlinehighschools.com

Re: Online High School

While I hesitate to toot my own horn, I should mention that I have a website for specifically this called:

Best Online High Schools

On it, I have about seventy-five online high schools with more on the way. If there is nothing else that I or you or anyone here should do, we should teach others that there are other choices out there beside UOP's very expensive junior college or comparable institutions. For example, if you live in California, community colleges are very inexpensive and many, many courses are available and easily transferable. Why would you not go that route? Because they don't advertise like the well-known schools do. And that is a shame.

I am doing quite a bit with online high schools these days and there are very expensive, moderately expensive, cheap, and free options. I try to teach folks that, while money shouldn't be the sole decider, you should explore all of the available options.

Tom
