&lt;p&gt;The &lt;em&gt;Wall Street Journal&lt;/em&gt; published an article on October 11th reporting that there is new legislation that forgives student loan debt for folks who work in careers focused on helping others (e.g. &lt;a href="http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/public-health.htm"&gt;public health&lt;/a&gt;, &lt;a href="http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/society.htm"&gt;law enforcement&lt;/a&gt;, and those who become a &lt;a href="http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/law.htm"&gt;lawyer&lt;/a&gt; serving the public interest.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The White House has posted a special release discussing this legislation. It&amp;#39;s called the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/09/20070927-1.html" title="College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007" target="_blank"&gt;College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;During the signing of the Act, the President addressed the audience: &amp;quot;The bill I sign today increases funding for Pell Grants by $11.4 billion over the next five years.
