In the school district where I work, we have high school students who are taking online classes. In North Carolina there is North Carolina Virtual Public Schools and a program called Learn and Earn, where the students take college courses online and earn both college and high school credit at the same time. I think its a good program, ...

masmid:I have about 15 18yr old credits from CityU in Seattle. They and Ellis are the only ones I have found willing to take them. The advantage of City is they are Bricks and Mortar and seem much more professional. Ellis is half the price. As I am paying out of pocket that is a HUGE consideration. Any opinions advice etc. will be greatly ...

cjhudd55:How can you be accepted to an online college/university when you can not pay the tuition fees and books
with just a Pell Grant? Ellis University would accept me if i could recieve a Stimulus Package from eLearners, otherwise i would
have to use a Pell Grant and a Payment Plan i can not afford because of being on a ...

I do not think its the worst thing ever, since these are for profit schools. Even some of the nonprofit universities, have an incentive bonus plan in place. A friend of mine works for a local, private, liberal arts school in NC. She said that every 6 months they go through a performance review and if you have met certain ...

efultz08:I didn't feel so uncertain about Walden at first until I read some reviews yesterday. A colleague of mine is getting her EdD from Walden and she seems to think it's a good school. However, I HAVE to chose a program that is online because my husband is in the military and we move too much for me to settle into a state university. ...

Hi, try Liberty University, they offer a distance learning Ed.D. program, but you have to spend I think 2 weeks in the summer at their main campus, but you do this only once:

TUI University also has a 100% online PhD in Educational Leadership you may want to look ...

Hi,
Check to see your state's requirements. States often have alternative ways to pursue licensure. NCATE helps a program, when the state that a particular program is in, does not have reprocity agreements with your current state. In NC, where I became a licensured teacher via alternative means, all one needs is either ...

Hi try Continental Academy, it is regionally accredited by SACS and the cost is only $400 for the entire program. My brother obtained his high school diploma from there and it was good enough to land him admissions to Southern New Hampshire University, which he currently attends.
The link to the diploma program is ...

Hi You may want to check with colleges in your own state that offer online masters degrees, if you are still skeptical about distance learning programs. For example, in my state of NC, they have a website that lists all of the distance learning programs from the state supported institutions, your state may have such a database or may be part ...

jwl84:I live in Indiana and I am thinking about going to Columbia College located in Columbia, Missouri. What is the disadvantage of this?
Hi I am in the same situation and there is no disadvantage. I have always listed the city and states of where my degrees came from and I have had 1 employer ask how did I manage to attend a school ...

femmarine: Dave,
Thanks for your information. I'm considering TUI due to my MGIBill. I am currently attending UOP and working on an MBA/MHS. What form of training do the CD's offer? Is it just reading of books and writing papers or does it include simulations, scenarios, worksheets, etc. How interesting do ...

For profit schools are in business to do just that, make a profit. Many such schools are owned by corporations. An example is Capella, University of Phoenix, Devry, Ashford University, and Kaplan University.
Non profits exist to not make a profit and normally enjoy tax breaks of nonprofit entities. Most of these schools ...

JamesE:I have been told that an individual course must be offered as a campus course to be offered as on online course by a college and still qualify for financial aid. Is this true?
I agree with Steve, I have obtained 2 graduate degrees via online learning and received financial aid. One of the colleges where I work, they have ...

tcnixon: P.S. And aren't you the smart person for even knowing that they needed to have reciprocity. If I had a dollar for each email I've received wanting me to help fix it...
For those who don't know: Teaching credentials/certificates/licensure earned in one state need to have reciprocity with another state for them to be valid in ...

ERamos:What would be the difference in these two education degrees-both Masters?
I have seen some MS Instructional Design programs that were geared mostly to developing training programs and did not necessarily focus on educational programs, like an M.Ed. would. But it depends on the college or university and where they would ...

SteveFoerster: Victoria:When I clicked on the second link, I was very surprised at what I saw. I had no idea that employers had ever explicitely stated that they did not want UOP or DeVry grads. I'm shocked.
Wow, I've never seen that before either. I thought employers just acted this way without admitting it, I didn't think ...

I graduated from Grand Canyon University back in December of 07 with a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Technology. My experience there was great. They offer 8 week courses and its about 400 dollars per credit hour, so I dont know how much Saint Josephs is. If you are just looking to work in the education ...

There are some hangups to UOP, some employers wont accept a degree from UOP and have put that in their job descriptions, that UOP or Devry graduates need not apply. I have never seen a job description that specifically stated that certain college grads need not to apply. One can only assume that the company has gotten burned by some ...

You should check with your state to see if they would accept a BSN from WGU, there are also other alternatives to online bachelors degrees in nursing. Try searching the online degree tab at this site for example, if you are wary about WGU.

SteveFoerster: I'm not a big fan of group work. There was a little of it in my online program at George Washington, but not much, and I was fortunate not to have any major slackers in my group.

I agree with you but synergy is still a buzz word now, just as it was in the 90's, so many curriculum specialists ...

I was lucky enough to have great cooperation in my group work projects. There was one group project, where there was 7 of us and one of us did not do his part. We emailed the the instructor who contacted him and warned him of his grade. He didnt want to participate so we were allowed to leave him off our project and he had to do ...

Hi, while I did not obtain an MA in Special Education, I did finish up an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from Grand Canyon University in December of 2007. The program was rigourous and I learned a great deal. Classes are 8 weeks and online. You have a variety of assignments, mostly written papers and projects, you also will do ...
