• re: Another Way to Deliver Distance Learning

I think the idea has much merit. Even at the K-12 level, we have many students who do not have access to the Internet. It's an interesting solution.

• Re: BSIT at Columbia Southern University

Might I suggest that all that you say is likely true and yet it matters very little. I tend to think in many cases the differences between NA and RA accreditation is minimal. My opinion on the subject doesn't matter either. The only opinion that does matter, in my opinion is the opinion of RA schools looking to accept units in transfer or ...
• Re: New to the Forum

As an aside, I am quite curious to see how that program at New Mexico State University works out for folks. I am surprised that they are able to charge in-state tuition. One would think NM taxpayers would have an issue with that. Do you know anyone who is actually in the program? Tom Nixon Best Online High Schools

• re: San Joaquin Valley College — Welcome to eLearners.com!

It has been interesting to watch the evolution of San Joaquin Valley College. It is a local school for me. It started out as what was once called a business college. It went after and achieved regional accreditation; a not easy task given their earlier structure. Kudos for eLearners.com for getting them to come onboard.

• Online learning a cost-cutting endeavour?

I just came across an article in the online version of the Wall Street Journal. It lists a number of cost-cutting devices for these perilous financial times including online learning. No, they are not talking about higher education. They are referring to the many online K-12 schools now available that are free. Some are charter schools and some ...
• Re: Hello!

Steve is exactly right about finding programs with dual enrollment, so that you could get both high school and college credit. Two for the price of one is always a good deal. One school that does offer such a thing is the University of Missouri High School, but there are certainly others. Tom ...

• Re: Bonjour!!!

I absolutely agree with that statement. Since the vast majority of folks just wander through, you need to be understanding that newbie questions come up time and again. And, to be honest, I am always learning new things which may change my answers to questions. Tom Nixon http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com

• Re: Bonjour!!!

As a veteran of the distance learning forum drama wars, I know from which I speak. While I occasionally pop in over at those places, it is more on a weekly or monthly basis. I just don't have the time. That being said, what is happening here is quality information without the explosions. Tom Nixon === Best Online High Schools

• re: From PC World: Virtual Schools Rapidly Building Foothold in Online Education

I am constantly amazed at how quickly online schools are growing in the K-12 market. My website, http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com, has over 200 online high schools and the number is growing almost weekly it seems. Where will it end? I see it growing for quite some time. In some ways, portions of the online college market are tapped out. They ...

• Re: Contemplating law at 45? Would appreciate any and all thoughts, suggestions and advice!

Very true. I did want to let the OP know that there are possibilities other than ABA. I have actually known of a couple of now-lawyers who came to California specifically because there was that option (and because their home states had few options). Has anyone ever put together a list of all of the different possibilities/rules/etc. for all 50 ...

Good introduction, Steve! This is a topic of great importance and that gets misinterpreted on a daily basis, it seems.

• Re: Doctorate degree

To reiterate what has been said, I am not even sure what an accredited doctorate would look like that did not include a dissertation. The point of a doctorate, in a sense, is the creation of new knowledge. Tom Nixon http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com

• Re: Contemplating law at 45? Would appreciate any and all thoughts, suggestions and advice!

I would like to suggest that your friend is mistaken or, at the very least, over-stating. While there are certainly places where a non-ABA would be problematic, where I live we have a large percentage of our local attorneys and a reasonable number of judges who went to a non-ABA school. It has clearly not been a hindrance for them. Why do we ...

• Re: Penn Foster Career School or Blackstone Career Institute?

I think you have found two schools that are very comparable. Both schools have both regional (Middle States) and national (DETC) accreditation. Both schools offer similar programs. The only thing that I think make Penn Foster stand out from the pair is name recognition. At least in my part of the world, Penn Foster advertises its programs on ...

• re: Online Education and the Dropout Rate

You are quite right that the State of Florida does not offer such a program. However, Florida Virtual School is free. Do they require some sort of attendance in a given place? Another option for you is Continental Academy, a private school located in Florida. Very reasonably priced and no classroom attendance required. Tom ...

• Re: Is it just me, or is the growth of online education not meeting expectations?

Online education has entered a large growth phase. This is particularly true if you add in all of the many online courses now offered by traditional universities. That being said, that large growth phase just may not meet your specific needs. You can point in any direction and find business degrees, information systems, English, and so on. What ...

• Re: Just join elearners today...

Steve offers good advice. The worst thing that you can do with an online course is get behind in your assignments. No professor to catch you when you fall. Best of luck and, please, let us know about your experience as you go through the program. Tom Nixon http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com

• Re: Diploma course Credits

Exactly right. Also, I would check with the school at which you are hoping to use the units (if that is your goal). As those of us who have transferred units, it can sometimes be very odd which units are accepted and which are not. Tom http://www.bestonlinehighschools.com

Lester: tcord1964: I actually agree with both positions here. Just because a school is unaccredited does not make it bad, or a diploma mill. I believe Bob Jones University was unaccredited at one time, and they are generally regarded as a very good university. However, with all of the accredited options out there, why bother ...
