It never ceases to amaze me the many different ways that distance learning programs are using technology to deliver their programs. I have seen distance learning courses delivered online, via PDA and, more recently, witnessed by son's girlfriend doing her high school homework and submitting her answers with her cell phone. Now, ...

Like PFC, Ashworth is also nationally accredited by the DETC. Their courses are also correspondence courses, and they seem to be very similar to the programs offered by Penn Foster. At one time, their fees were virtually identical, but as you pointed out, PFC has increased their tuition, making Ashworth the less expensive. ...

Although you say cost isn't an issue for you, I have always found UoP to be very overpriced. Also, it doesn't enjoy a good reputation among many businesses. Steve gave you some good advice. Unless you are going to get your degree through an assessment college like Excelsior, Charter Oak or Thomas Edison, it ...

Considering the number of students it has and it's healthy bottom line, PFC probably doesn't feel any pressure to seek regional accreditation. For the student, it would be great if they did, but PFC is not only a school; it's a business. It would need to make financial sense for them to seek RA. I do see the purchase ...

Actually, I said that, not Cajun. I appreciate the comparison, although I get the feeling Cajun is a bit smarter than me!

I can't speak to the Graphic Design program in particular, but I have been very happy with my studies at Penn Foster College. The courses are challenging, and although I haven't graduated from PFC I was able to change careers and get a new job just because I was enrolled and studying in a degree program with them.
I work with ...

It has been awhile since I have blogged here at eLearners. For those of you who may be wondering where I have been hiding myself, I have been here at home, recuperating from the flu. I suspect I had H1N1, although officially my flu test came back negative. However, the doctor also said the test is wrong 40 percent of the ...

Thank God Aspen finally redesigned their web site. It used to be very clunky and amateurish. It's much more user-friendly now.

Sorry, but what you are stating is opinion, not fact. As Steve has pointed out, studies have been done showing there is no significant difference in the learning outcomes between students who took their courses online and those who studied in the classroom. For some people, classroom study may be best. For others, online learning ...

I raise a few possibilities and questions in the Penn Foster blog.

For the second time in the past four years, Penn Foster College is being sold. When I first enrolled at PFC in 2005, the school was known as Education Direct, which I admit wasn't a very catchy name. Now, the company which purchased Education Direct and renamed it to Penn Foster is selling the school to the Princeton Review, a ...

mikuhra:Im just wondering if what are the advantages of online study and how does it differ to the usual type of schooling?
The main difference between online study and classroom instruction is the delivery method of the course. Don't confuse "online" with "easy". Some of the most difficult courses I ...

Most adult students (including me) were in the exact same situation. For the most part, colleges realize their adult students have not been in school for a long time and they tailor their courses accordingly. I never did learn algebra in high school, but I learned it while studying my Business Math course at Penn Foster College and got ...

Unless you need it for college credit, save your money. There are plenty of free online Excel tutorials.

Unfortunately, a BA in General Studies may not help you here. Almost all online PharmD programs are for students who already have a BS in Pharmacy. The only "start from scratch" program for the PharmD which is available online is the PharmD program at Creighton University. Admission into the program is extremely ...

By the way, if you live in California and a community college will work for you, tuition is roughly $25 per credit hour. If you have to take 12 hours per semester, that's only $300 per semester. That's probably the best deal going for college credits.

I think the question is subjective. I don't think one is necessarily "better" than the other, but it depends upon the program. Would I want my doctor to have a degree from an online school? Heck no...he better have some hands-on experience and face-time with an instructor. For other professions, distance ...

Just out of curiosity, why was the marketing program a mistake for you?

Jenna:Hi I'm' looking for an accredited school and am wanting to know what school is the cheapest per credit hour. I have to be in school at least 12 hours per semester to maintain health insurance. It may sound like a stupid reason, but being without health insurance is serious stuff. PLEASE HELP!
You don't ...

meatbeagle:Well, given the time constraints, I've opted to blatasntly ignore your warnings and shoot myself squarely in the foot.
I'll be attempting Business Ethics and eBusiness at the same time, I work a 3rd shift job that is comprised mostly of sitting and staring at the walls, and barring one family emergency, I've had little ...

Ellis is one of the pricier distance learning options out there. Have you considered going to a less expensive school?
-
According to the College Board web site, there are only five CLEP testing centers in all of Canada, and only two of those are "open" testing centers. They are both in Saskatchewan. I think Steve gave you some good advice about crossing the border and doing your tests in the US.

I think any of them would be reasonable choices. If it were me, I would probably go with either Ashford or Southern New Hampshire University. I like the look of the programs at Ellis, but they are quite expensive.

I'm not sure I would recommend associate degrees for anything beyond an entry level job. For most jobs that I see advertised in my area, the bachelor degree seems to be the minimum qualification for the bettery-paying jobs.
With that being said, the job market is touch for everyone right now, no matter what type of degree they ...

ACCSCT is a national accrediting agency like the DETC, but their schools tend to focus more on vocational/technical programs, such as welding or massage therapy. A few of their schools do offer bachelor or master degrees in areas such as visual design, web graphics, etc. The Art Institute is a school which is accredited by ...
