Western Governors University also has a BS in IT program:

They are also geared toward assessing your current certifications and knowledge to expedite your education.

Interesting...you chose two people (Edison and Einstein) who were both eventually recognized as having learning disabilities.

In regard to your point about teens following celebrity issues, I felt an opportunity was lost when Fantasia from American Idol came out and admitted that she was illiterate. Here was a situation where education could've been discussed...and the advantages of online learning could be brought to light.
The good news is that I've heard she's ...

SteveFoerster:Of course you're putting down other schools. What's positive about saying that a liberal arts curriculum won't help people "in the real world" and comparing Ivy League schools to "garbage"?

Hear hear!!! Furthermore, if you believe that the "trials and errors of the ...

Terry, that was my first thought as well: it sounds like a for-profit school. Sounds like Jenni's advisor is trying to hit a quota...and filling out financial aid info is considered a good indicator as to whether she'll enroll.
Jenni, if you are still interested in this school, put the advisor on the spot. Ask her ...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/personal/03/05/student.loans/index.html
One of the options I didn't see mentioned was a graduated payback option. When I was first starting out paying back my loans, there was a program that allowed you to start out paying smaller amounts, and then within a number of years your payment increased by an ...

word of warning: a lot of bigger companies WILL verify your education.

It's worth noting...you also get the respect of your superiors. In taking the lead and implementing someone's idea, you show leadership skills in working with a team, sharing ideas and making ideas happen.

It's always good to know that the punishment for the offenders will be a lovely stay at Camp Cupcake, while the people trying to improve their lives through education will be punished with a big fat rejection letter for financial aid. Let's hope that the reduction to the deficit (*cough*) is worth No Poor Young Adult Not Left ...

Thank you Anne, for giving everyone a list of scholarship sites:

Just a word of warning to those industrious to look the school up in CHEA...they aren't in that database [yet?]. When I went to the Middle States Assoc. of Colleges and Schools site, I saw that London Metropolitan University was accredited in June of 2007. So it looks like their Regional accreditation is very recent.

Thank you so much; this is great information.

Hello back!
So...how do you feel about taking classes online? Why did you choose online instead of brick-and-mortar? What interests you about law school (are you in a Criminal Justice program now)?
-
#1 on your list is a good point. I've seen some people make it work. But I've also seen an employee and her boss caught in a passionate kiss by the regional HR manager [d'oh!]. Another caveat is that it can limit your career options if the person you're involved with plays a role in the job functions of a higher ...

Okay, Cajun, now I gotta know....what did your boss do to "earn" his promotion with his boss??????
I kid, I kid.... :)
To expand on one of Cajun's points, I would say whether it's the company phone or whether it's your cell phone, personal calls should be kept to an absolute minimum. I'd even say especially not cell phones, as ...

I thought Cajun made a pretty good start with his list. If anyone else wants to chime in with their pearls of wisdom, type away!

I apologize, Cajun is correct. Peru State is regionally accredited [by the NCA, according to the CHEA database]; I just couldn't find it on their site.
-
Peru State is part of the Nebraska State Colleges System, accredited by NCATE. This is neither a regional nor a national accrediting body but a professional accrediting body recognized by CHEA; more on that here. Generally speaking, regional accreditation is golden, national accreditation is still pretty good (but credits don't ...

That's a shot off the bow for the Ivy League, eh?
Ironically, the measures they're looking at don't just cut the bottom line. They're also things which may appeal to those traditionally disenchanted w/ the going to college.
Thanks for the heads up, Henry.

Do you currently hold any certifications in IT? Some schools will give you credit for these certifications.

In re: work.....do they know you're going back to school? First of all, they might help foot the bill (esp if it relates to your current position). Second, they might be more willing to help accommodate your work/life balance so that you can be successful.
In re: your boyfriend.....Well, The Captain will ignore the obvious cracks ...

From the article: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,316503,00.html "Every child born in
Maine will be eligible for a $500 college savings nest egg, thanks to
the generosity of a shoe company founder who never attended college
himself.
"A foundation started by the

Think of it this way: cops may not have as much perceived prestige but they DEFINITELY have better accessories. We're comparing rubber pants v. guns and handcuffs.

I wonder if Scientists have lost a measure of prestige because of the ePharmacy that television has become.

Shane, you make a good point. There is the threat of homogeneous thought if you stay at the same place, especially if you're looking to get into academia.
However, if someone is in a job and needs a degree just to show competence or get a promotion, diversity of thought may not be a consideration (a shame, but...).
