Deepak - AMU is entirely online and asynchronous. You never have to go to a physical campus.

I have a young colleague here at my agency who is taking the MA in International Relations and Conflict Resolution from American Military University. I'm a student there in their military history program (my degree is intended for retirement, his is for promotion).
Personally, I'm a big fan of the school - faculty, for ...

Erisca - I think I see what's going on here.
The confusion appears to be over semester hours vs. quarter hours. Basically, I think you are comparing apples and oranges. When a school operates on quarter system, rather than semster system, then you are looking at approximately 180 quarter hours for a bachelor's degree. ...

J - My wife is in the MA in Humanities program at APU - the sister school to AMU. I'm in the MA in Military History at AMU.
As far as the humanities program - she's finished four courses and has enjoyed the program. Some of the readings were a little odd, but that may just be my point of view. Her recommendations ...

Steven - I am a student at AMU (the sister school of APU) and my wife is a student at APU (as is my sister-in-law). Needless to say, I'm a big fan of the school. I live in the DC area and work for the federal government, and my job requires a great deal of travel. My experience is that the professors are very lenient with ...

My sister-in-law is about to finish her AS in Paralegal Studies through American Public University -- that's the "sister" school to American Military University (AMU - which is where I'm studying). She's been pretty pleased with the program and plans on continuing on into their BS in Legal Studies with hopes one day of ...

Okay, maybe a different slant from me...
I'm not so sure that the US economy is "in the tank". While unemployment is the highest it has been in a long time, it's a little over 9%. That means that 1 in 10 people are out of work - or put the other way, 9 out of 10 are employed.
Going off the government's ...

I am a student in AMU's MA in Military History. I completed an academic certificate there in World War II studies a couple of months ago and seriously considered enrolling in Norwich's MA in Military History but chose to go back to AMU (for a variety of reasons).
In doing your research, you'll have to find the program that ...

Steve - my AMU experience was great, and I may yet re-enroll for the MA degree. One of my long term goals is to teach (after I hang up my Fed career) and my thought process is to show diversity of learning and academic experience. Having earned a certificate from AMU I'm curious to see other methodologies and approaches. I ...

I'm looking for anyone who may be in or who has graduated from the MA in Military History program at Noriwch Univeristy. I've done a lot of research and talked with the folks there and am feeling pretty good about their program, but I'd like to hear from folks who are in or who have been through the program.
A little about ...

Hey Cajun, I'm just looking to learn and explore my options. elearners is light years ahead of just about all of the other sites that claim promote online learning. What I like about his site is that no one is witholding information waiting for my contact info. Everyone is pretty upfront.

I thought AMU was great - I learned a great deal, and with one exception, had outstanding faculty and fellow students. Makes me wish that they had been around back when I was on active duty!
I'm leaning toward Norwich for the MA - they have a good program too, though not as flexible as AMU, but I want some diversity in my ...

The schools listed under that tab appear to be somewhat limited. What criteria is used to put a school on the list, is it a "pay to play" list?

donald11: wow, lots of great advice here. Now, as far as competing with grads from top tier schools, it is my experience that nobody in governemnt cares where you went to school. In fact, according to some news stories I have read, the government is a major employer of diploma mill "graduates." So I strongly doubt tht ...

Here's my take...
The master's degree won't get you a job -- your skills, work experience, and performance at school will be what gets you the job. With a JD from Concord Law, at 24 or 25 years old, you'll be competing for these Fed jobs with graduates from UVA, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Harvard, etc... Who do you think ...

Hi, my name is Vince. I'm a passionate student of history and military history and a big believer in going to school online. I recently finished a graduate certificate in World War II studies from American Military University and am considering getting a master's in military history from either AMU or probably ...

Lawrence: It seems very reasonable. My doubts stem from my first foray into seeking an adjunct position at the very college from which I graduated magna *** laude( Manhattanville College) with a dual degree, (BA in History and Masters in Teaching). I was told to come back when I possessed a Phd. This is strange because the ...
