    SOUTH AFRICA ...DISTANCE LEARNING?

    Hello friends

Does anyone have knowledge of institutions/schools in south africa offering distance learning bachelors degrees in Information technology, business administration or both? Low tuition cost is important.
I intend to transfer credits alongside professional qualifications and work experience, so a degree completion program will be okay.

    Kindly send in your replies.

    Many Thanks
    Sammy

Hi sam - Your best bet is probably UNISA, the University of South Africa.  They have a program for evaluating prior learning as well as many Bachelors degree programs.

    Re: SOUTH AFRICA ...DISTANCE LEARNING?

I looked at South Africa University's fees and

    Undergraduate---Computer Science and Data Processing----R390 00= 5.900 USD

     http://www.unisa.ac.za/contents/studyinfo/docs/process_docs/Fees_2008.pdf

London University---Bachelor Degreeand Information Systems--- £3,566=5.200 USD

    http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/prospective_students/undergraduate/goldsmiths/cis/fees.shtml

Maybe i did a mistake, i don't know but in this conditions South Africa University doesn't seem logical to me.I wanted to know are there any universities which costs annual 4.000-5.000 USD.I found your web site new and i don't know much more about distance education yet.I can't apply this term i guess. Can i apply for spring term?

Hi Newbie.  At today's exchange rate, £3,566 is actually US$7,318.50.  Still, in my opinion that's a great deal for it being all tuition fees for a University of London first degree. I can understand why one would prefer it to one from Unisa, even when Unisa is a bit cheaper.

    Re: SOUTH AFRICA ...DISTANCE LEARNING?

Wait, are you looking for a program that is $5,000 per year or less, or are you looking for a program the total cost of which is $5,000 or less?

Yes, probably.  However, since the University of London program is just US$7,318.50 total, which spread over three years is less than half your annual budget, wouldn't you want to take a close look at that one first?

    Re: SOUTH AFRICA ...DISTANCE LEARNING?

Unisa has just about everything, including software engineering.  As for other schools that are $5000/year or less, I'm not sure.  That's pretty low for a Bachelor's degree.  There's an American school called Troy University that's $5,550/year and has a Bachelor's program in Applied Computer Science, but that's about the least expensive I can think of that's in your chosen field.

    COST FOR DISTANCE LEARNING

    Hello Steve

Do we have lot of distant learning universities in africa like back in the western countries.

I have been looking for an online distant learning university in Africa for quite sometime now but i seem not to have any luck.

And if there is are they cheaper than most western countries.

The idea of paying $5000 or less for a whole program would be great.

     For a computer science programme

Can you help with any distant learning institution across the globe that would cost $5000 or little more if not less for a whole programme, let say computer science.

    Thank you.

Yes, there are a lot of them!  There are open universities in Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and many other countries.  Where are you?

The University of South Africa would certainly qualify.
