I'm almost committed to AIU Online, someone give me your advice.

Ok, so I have talked with everyone about everything, but there is still time to back out and find a better school online.  I am paying for all of this myself and will have to take out a couple loans, but the good thing is none of this is going to come out of pocket right now.  My financial aid advisor and my admittance counselor have been more than friendly and very helpful in all my questions and concerns, but they work there.  My question is...

Will this degree do anything for me?  If I get a degree, and I am going all the way from now until my masters in Business Project Managment in under three years, will it increase my worth to a company?  Or are they going to look at my degree and it not do anything for me because it's online or AIU.  I guess what I am trying to ask is in the business world does this schools degree have good standing?

Secondly, I read that they are still on probation, so I would love to hear some of the advice and opinons that other people have for me.  I am ready to jump into this thing full fledged but I don't want to jump into the wrong one!

Hi Nicole - You just need to scroll up one tiny bit and click on the forum entitled "Online College Reviews and Opinions."   There you'll find a thread entitled "AIU Online".  If that doesn't answer your questions then nothing will.  Good luck.

They are being scruntized by the legal officer in DC for taking advantage of Soldiers....signing them up for classes never requested, signing them up for loans, etc.

If you were my family, I would suggest you keep looking.  AIU is tempting because of the speed of their program but given the price and their reputation, legal and accreditation woes...keep looking.  What are you looking to do?  Perhaps we can help you find something.

I am currently attending AIU Online. My brother is also attending, and his wife just graduated with her Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice last week! I LOVE my Business program mainly because of the online support that it offers. Yes, the accelerated programs are great, and the 24 hour campus is peachy, but if I couldn't get the kind of HELP that I needed at all times of the day, all the other benefits wouldn't matter. I know that it's easy for people who don't go to the Universuty to voice their opinions, but if this is something you are REALLY considering, then you want to talk to someone who has ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with their programs. WE ARE ALL SATISFIED! Especially, my Sisiter-In-Law who was offered the position she had been seeking only 13 days after completing her Degree Program!

Wow! Talk about a family affair! That's terrific! How are you guys financing your educations?

Glad AIU is a good choice for you - there's a school out there for everyone!

I am always suspicious of posts like this. The "everything is perfect" post about any college. The fact that it seems like your entire family went there, and they all share the same great opinion of the place leads me to believe one of two possibilities. Either you are a recruiter for the college trying to drum up some good buzz, or AIU passes out degrees like candy.

Nothing personal; it is just that I would expect some mixed results for any cross section of the population. Several members of my extended family went to college. Some did good, some didn't. If any family is able to easily get degrees left and right, that makes me suspicious about the quality of education. If I said "Every one in my family took a 'Get Rich in Only One Hour Per Day' seminar and now we are all millionaires", would you not be a little suspicious?

    No offense taken.

I didn't say there were not challenges to going to school there, but if their program didn't challenge me, THEN I WOULDN"T BE LEARNING ANYTHING!

What's funny is that you seem to have developed an opinion of three mebers of a family you know nothing about. I stated that all three of us attended AIU and had great experiences, and for some reason you feel that one or two of us SHOULD HAVE failed or at least been unhappy with our experience.

    Sorry to dissapoint.

My brother was suspicious of online schooling all the way up to his wife's second to last session. When she got her degree, and he had watched her through the whole process, he decided to check it out for himself.

I was equally suspicious, and had to watch HIM work it out a bit before I decided to give it ago. That's how it works in OUR family. If one person has a good experience, we share it with as many of us as possible.

It's unfortunate that you're so quick to judge.

    Thanks for reading my post!

I had to use Financial Aid.

My brother works for Verizon, so they pretty much paid for he and his wife's schooling.Yes

    Denise,

Thanks for coming back and sharing! How were AIU's financial aid advisors? Were they helpful for you? Or were you able to figure out all the financial aid stuff yourself?

    Cheers,
    Helen

I absolutely would NOT have been able to figure out myself. I actually could have had the whole process wrapped up in 3 days if I could have gotten ahold of my tax info a lot sooner. All in all, they were very helpful.

The fact that you took the time to respond proves you aren't a recruiter. If AIU worked for you then I am glad. There are always exceptions to the rule. I stand corrected.
