    Pay Scale

    Hi,

Just curious to know how much U of Phoenix and Aspen Uni might be paying to instructors for a single course of MBA? Any idea?!

    Cheers,

    singh.

I have no idea but I've heard UofP pay is pretty low in comparison.  Have you contacted any of their faculty recruiters?

    Re: Pay Scale

I havent contacted any faculty recruiter yet. But in case any faculty recruiter asks me about the expectations, then I thought of keeping myself prepared for the answer.

Responses on net vary... some say $500, $1000, $2000, $3000, $3500 per 3 credit course... which has confused me totally.

    Cheers.

    Re: Pay Scale

Some schools do it based upon the student load for the class.  Some use a prorated method of base+student load.  Some are flat fee, so it depends.

    Re: Pay Scale

So for a management related course for an online MBA attended by 20 students, how much may be asked for?

    Thanks again.

    Re: Pay Scale

One school where I used to work paid their instructors $1800 per course if they had a Master's and $2100 per course if they had a doctorate, and I gather they're on the mid to upper end of the scale.  I occasionally teach for a resource-constrained rural community college that pays less than that, but I don't do it for the money, I do it because I appreciate the school's mission.

If you put in the number of hours that you should, you end up making the equivalent of a pretty low hourly wage.  I've seen people do the numbers and realize that on a strictly total-pay-divided-by-total-hours basis it would have made more sense for them to make cappuccinos at Starbucks than to teach university courses as an adjunct.

In other words, if you do it, it's best to haev a motivation other than money.  If you want it as a bullet point for your CV, or if you just like teaching, for example, it can make sense.

Thanks Steve for taking time to reply in detail. Yes, I would like to step into this industry. Although, I am very much satisfied with my well-paying permanent job... however with an inclination towards teaching, I certainly want to get into it.

    With regards, singh.
