Need help deciding on a school!

I know this is asking a lot but I hope some of you can help me decide on the best college for an online BA.  I'm thinking of getting my BA in either Healthcare or Human Resources but after thinking about it, I doubt my employer will pay for Healthcare since we have nothing to do with it.  Therefore, I am now leaning towards HR Management.

I did some research on schools today and have narrowed it down to the following list:

Westwood College - They don't see to have a good list of courses and seem to be expensive.

Western Governors University - They mention that they do not transfer credits.  They also seem to be very strict on a person doing continuous coursework.  They state you have to do 12 credit hours.

Ashford University - They don't have a lot of programs to choose from it seems.

Colorado Technical University - Their website doesn't mention being able to transfer to credits.

Walden University - Their Website is very slow which concerns me on fast their online classroom is.  All of their courses seem to be 5 credit hours which appears to be odd.

Upper Iowa University - Ranked 4th by OEDB.

I can help you with a few of these schools.  I will start with Ashford.  My wife currently attends this college for a Teaching degree.  They are making her take a lot of Sociology and Psychology classes.  Some of these classes I even wonder why she needs them for teaching.  Also, if you are willing to pay out of pocket expenseses for books, the go right ahead with this school.  Some of her books have costed us near $150.  They do have a lot of programs, but they are in the field of teaching than they are anything else.  Colorado Technical University is a great school.  I would know why because I graduated from there last June.  I went for my Associates degree in IT.  When it came to transferring credit, they did all they could to transfer all that they could.  Just let them know you want as many as they can get you.  I went to a school that, I found out from CTU, was unaccredited.  They did, in the end, transfer as many as they could.  Ashfords credit hours are 3 while at CTU, I varried between 2 and 6.  I am currently attending Kaplan and their credit hours are 5 and 6.  If you were to take a recommendation from me, find a college that has an Associates, Bachelor, and Masters(just in case) degree of the subject you want to study.  It is a lot easier than having to pay an addmission fee and transfer your hours.  Out of this list, I would recommend CTU, but overall, I would recommend Kaplan.  Check their courses out to see if they have what you are looking for.  Good Luck!

Just my $.02, but have you checked out SUNY Empire State College?

The link is to the relevant program.  I do not know about the tuition of the other schools you were considering, but through the Center for Distance Learning, tuition is in-state rate.  The SUNY system is well regarded and I will say that the standards at ESC are high.  You will get a very worthwhile education.  For the most part, I have been thrilled with my ESC experiences.

Interesting list.  I'm sure all of them (other than WGU) would do their best to accept as much transfer credit as possible.  I wouldn't worry about Walden's web site being an indicator of their online classroom speed, as universities usually outsource the management of their online classrooms to an outfit like Blackboard, eCollege, etc.  I'm not sure the OEDB list means much, but I do like Upper Iowa University, so maybe that's a good one to consider?

SUNY or Upper Iowa would be good choices.  That being said Ashford is known for taking a lot of transfer credits and I had a great experience there.  Books are expensive though (where aren't they?) also there is CTU where my brother graduated from, I was pretty impressed with what I heard and saw of his experience.  All in all, not a bad list to choose from.

All of you are really great with your responses.  This is the best forum I have had the pleasure of being a member of.  Thanks to all of you!

Another question I have is I received my Associates degree in 1993.  Will any college consider transferring any of those credits or is it too long ago?

Depends on the school, some have a 10 year cut off.  That being said, call around I'm certain many, if not most, will.
