    Questions about Fielding Graduate University

    Hello,

I would like to know if anyone knows anything about Fielding Graduate University.  I am particulary interested in their online clinical PH.D in psychology, and how demanding this course is. If anyone has attended this school and could supply me with this information I would appreciate it.

Re: Questions about Fielding Graduate University

Fielding Graduate University is unique in that they are the only all online school that's not only regionally accredited but is also accredited by the APA.  My understanding is that the latter is important in many states for those interested in licensure as a clinical psychologist.

I think I remember reading a while back that they're pretty rigorous, given their stature I can't imagine they'd be anything but that.  That's not the same thing as personal experience with them, which I don't have.

In Texas that APA accreditation is very important, I'm sure it's the same in most other states as well.

Fielding has a reputation for rigor. Its degree programmes are neither fast, nor easy, nor inexpensive. But they are very valuable, and have some flexibility. (Mainly with the methods you may employ to demonstrate competency in each of the programme's learning areas.)

Re: Questions about Fielding Graduate University

Fielding University is situated a mile from my house, so I can confirm it's not entirely virtual! With respect to the Clinical Psych program, in addition to the interim attrition rates, it would be worth inspecting the APA required disclosure data on outcomes. I'd suggest you eye carefully, the critical issue of the percentage of candidates who were accepted into APA internships, those who found alternatives in APPIC internships, and those who made do with unaccredited sites for internships.

Check also the rate of completion and the time to completion. Compare the time to completion with the annual tuition rate and rate structure (how and what you pay for each additional year beyond the nominal time-to-completion).

The low number of alumni eventually licensed could indeed be a crock as the footnotes suggest, given that that particular benchmark relies on those polled actually responding. However, the rest of the data are not in doubt.
