Looking for info on business management or healthcare admin.

This is my first post.  I am enquiring for my hubby.  He has only a GED but lots of life experience.  He is looking for an online distance learning program for either a degree in general business management or healthcare administration.  He needs one that does not require any previous college credits as he has none.  Can anyone help?  Thank in advance.

Hi Angel - I don't think that your husband will have any difficulty in finding a program because there are many available.  He will find that there is a range of costs and some variety in how the programs are organized and how the academic material is taught.  Choices are good!  A great way to start is to simply scroll to the top of the page and click on the tab (far left) labeled "Online Degrees."  There are quite a few listed in both categories you've mentioned.

Re: Looking for info on business management or healthcare admin.

I'm currently a business major at Western Governors  which has new graduate degree programs in healthcare and health education, and plans to add a MSN for nursing shortly: http://www.wgu.edu/

The programs at WGU are competency-based, so you are not locked into enrolling in courses you do not need.  This is ideal for returning students and those of us making a mid-career 'correction' ;-) Realistically, most students can easily complete the equivalent of a year or more of college work in a 26-week term, so you can expect to complete your degree in two or two and half years, no sweat!  'Course, that's assuming you have 15-20 hours to devote to your studies, and most importantly the determination and self-discipline to stick with it!  You're actual mileage will vary, of course; we've had several students streal though the program like greased lightening - one recently graduated who completed the BS in Business Admistration in a year with time to spare, but she was working at it full time and then some!  (I think she said she was putting in between 45-48 hours a week - which is impractical for most of us, but on the other hand gives pause to wonder just how much partying is actually going on in those traditional brick-and-mortar schools that it takes them four years ;-) )

Most students at WGU are completing as much as the program as possible in self-directed study with a minimum of online courses (usually 8- to 12-weeks so you can easily fit several of them within a 26-week term).

There is no specific GPA requirement or minimal scores on SAT or ACT for undergraduate admissions.  At US$2835 per 6-month term, it's a terrific bargain!

[Regardless of distance learning or traditional brick-and-mortar, all college students save drastic amounts textbooks by reselling them to other students.]

Thank you all for the replies.  I am about to graduate from excelsior college out of Albany New York with an ADN in nursing.  After that my study bud and I plan to bridge ADN to MSN.  However I had my LPN already so I was just concerned he might have trouble not having any college credits.  I will keep researching thanks for the advice.   Angel

Online MBA Programs are now discussed in Wikipedia.  Go to www.wikipedia.org and enter Online MBA Programs in the search box.  Capitalization is important.

    Do you mean this article

LOL. I'm not sure why Mr. Jacobsen seems to have a personal vendetta against distance learning ... ! Glad he found a home for his thoughts at Wikipedia.

As I read it, Jacobsen (or whoever really wrote that section, for with Wikipedia one never knows) was specifically disparaging for-profit online programs, lamenting that that their low quality gives all of online a bad name.  And frankly, to some extent I agree.

Having said that, I think that article doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards for neutral point of view, and may be a candidate for deletion.
