Compare Capella / Northeastern MBA finance

Looking at going back to school and realize the only way possible would be online.  Any suggestions or feedback on comparing these two online universities overall?

Anyone have anything to say on either one??

Both are reputable accredited schools but if you don't mind my asking, what do you already know about these schools?  Have you researched them?  What are you planning on doing with your MBA?

Were those the only two online MBA programs in the world I'd probably go with Northeastern.  But they're not -- how did you winnow things down to them?

To be honest I have really just started researching going back to school for a MBA in finance.  So I would guess these two schools have caught attention by the limited amount of online research I have done.  Steve would be your recommendation for a school based on your experiences?  Thanks for taking the time to reply above.

I have probably researched Capella a little more at this time, and like the ideal of doing my studying / classroom time based on my schedule.  I have a family life and work life like many that must be balanced.

My employeer is saying they will fund my education to get an MBA in finance, so this make me want to take them up on this offer.  I could advance within my company based on having a better accounting/finance background, so it does motivate me to get off my duff and go for it.

What are some of the main differnece I should be looking for in a online MBA in finance?  Thanks again !!

Well, that's good news -- since your employer is paying there's no reason to shop solely on price.

I'm looking at the entries for Master's degrees in Finance in our database:

    http://www.elearners.com/online-degrees/master/finance.htm

And I'm cross-referencing with the list of those that are accredited by AACSB, which is the best recognized business accreditation, considered a step up from schools that only have regional accreditation:

    http://aacsb.edu/General/InstLists.asp?lid=2

The two that match are Northeastern University (which you've already found) and Boston University.  Those both stand out to me as pretty good names to have on one's resume.  I'd definitely concentrate on them unless there's some sort of compelling reason to go more broadly.

If price were no barrier to an MBA it would easy for me to choose.  Duke university or Penn State University would ring top of the list.  They may not be in "finance" but they would be top rated MBA programs from highly respected schools that will carry some serious weight.  But the fact is your employer may balk at the 96K per year price tag that comes with Duke.  Penn State however is much more reasonable.

Other than that Boston U. is excellent as well.

Northeastern MBA program is AACSB accredited with haufty price tag. If 35k is not a problem, I would take NE for sure. In the contrary, Capella has regional accreditation which is not bad school and the price tag is around 20k.

Well, if price is an object, then there are AACSB accredited schools that are lower cost.  One of them is the University of South Dakota, which has an online MBA that is 33 credits.  Their graduate online tuition rate is $290.65 per credit for a total of just $9,591.45.
