PHD?</title><link>http://community.elearners.com/forums/thread/21714.aspx</link><pubDate>Mon, 29 Jun 2009 14:38:05 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">a38ca78a-ab42-484e-baa9-96b732762621:21714</guid><dc:creator>PPConsulltant</dc:creator><slash:comments>0</slash:comments><comments>http://community.elearners.com/forums/thread/21714.aspx</comments><wfw:commentRss>http://community.elearners.com/forums/commentrss.aspx?SectionID=8&amp;PostID=21714</wfw:commentRss><description>&lt;p&gt;At this present moment, I am finishing up my last 5 classes at Capella University(I&amp;#39;m taking 3 classes for summer quarter and 2 for my last quarter, am I insane, probably...lol).&amp;nbsp; My masters will be in Counseling Studies and right now I am working for a nonprofit organization.&amp;nbsp; In the summer quarter of next year, &amp;#39;10, I plan&amp;nbsp;to&amp;nbsp;re-enroll into a PH.D program (@ either Capella U or Walden) to jump start my career in either School Psychology or Organizational Psychology...why these 2 disciplines? &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;School Psychology-I love children and I love assessments &amp;amp; testing.&amp;nbsp; The fact that I would be off during the summer, excites me.&amp;nbsp; TN Board of education recognizes both institutions and will accept their programs.&amp;nbsp; Where I live, a lot of the urban youth do not have a glorious idea on what a learning disorder is, neither their parents.&amp;nbsp; Most people think that their children are lazy and/ or think that they may be acting out, and it could be that their child(ren) is suffering from ADD/ADHD or some type of learning disorder.&amp;nbsp; I&amp;#39;ve checked with the boards and yes,they do recognize that program.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Organizational Psychology-I work for a nonprofit agency and I do like working in the business matter of things.&amp;nbsp; I am a program supervisor for a nonprofit agency and I want to work with nonprofits and small businesses on employee retention and selection, assessments, career development, &amp;amp; establishing ethics in the workplace.&amp;nbsp;Even turning it into&amp;nbsp;private practice.&amp;nbsp;Capella University&amp;#39;s organizational psych program is recognized by the Society of Industrial &amp;amp; Organizational Psychology.&amp;nbsp; One thing about this is that I am already trying to climb the ladder here, so the ph.d would be a huge advantage since I am already working at my employer.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Anyone who is obtaining a ph.d in these two areas or anyone who is knowledgeable about these career fields render some advice?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Did I do my homework?
