I have been aching my mind trying to figure out which program would be best in my professional development as well as interest. I'm narrowing it down to Higher Education Administration or School Psychology, but I am just not sure. I have a while before I enroll (next Spring or Summer), so I am going to think very hard about it.

Those are two completely different things, so it's a good thing that you have a while to consider it!

I believe that higher educational doctorates are in high demand, but with this economy, I don't really know. I know I cannot base my future on the present, so we will see what happens.

What do you actually want to do with your life? That should be the most important factor!

Ditto Steve's advice. I know in Texas to practice as a psychologist you have to have an APA degree for licensure.

I'm doing a doctoral program in health education through A.T. Still University, and blogging about it. One thing you should keep in mind if you're interested in doctoral-level psychology is whether you'll need to have a degree from a school accredited by the American Psychological Association. I believe that some states require APA accreditation for licensure.

I believe that Fielding Graduate University is the only APA accredited school that offers doctorates in psychology by distance.

I'm actually still attending there now and working on my last 2 quarters there and in the spring of next year, I plan on going back to start the ph.D program @ Capella....So far, I have loved it. By no means is it a fly by night, do anything to get an A school...you work hard and you earn your grade. In fact, I have earned 2 C's during the entire time, I've been there due to moving and not practicing effective time management. But so far, so good. I feel like I've learned more in the 2 years than the 4 years I was at UT Knoxville....

It's a great school, never had a problem with the staff or administration and my instructors were knowledgeable overall. Great experience...

Hi and welcome to the community. Sorry, I'm not working on a doctorate right now but we have more than a couple of folks here who are, though not necassarily in these fields, at least that I know of. Anyhow, good luck on your program, how was your experience at Capella?

At this present moment, I am finishing up my last 5 classes at Capella University(I'm taking 3 classes for summer quarter and 2 for my last quarter, am I insane, probably...lol). My masters will be in Counseling Studies and right now I am working for a nonprofit organization. In the summer quarter of next year, '10, I plan to re-enroll into a PH.D program (@ either Capella U or Walden) to jump start my career in either School Psychology or Organizational Psychology...why these 2 disciplines?

School Psychology-I love children and I love assessments & testing. The fact that I would be off during the summer, excites me. TN Board of education recognizes both institutions and will accept their programs. Where I live, a lot of the urban youth do not have a glorious idea on what a learning disorder is, neither their parents. Most people think that their children are lazy and/ or think that they may be acting out, and it could be that their child(ren) is suffering from ADD/ADHD or some type of learning disorder. I've checked with the boards and yes,they do recognize that program.

Organizational Psychology-I work for a nonprofit agency and I do like working in the business matter of things. I am a program supervisor for a nonprofit agency and I want to work with nonprofits and small businesses on employee retention and selection, assessments, career development, & establishing ethics in the workplace. Even turning it into private practice. Capella University's organizational psych program is recognized by the Society of Industrial & Organizational Psychology. One thing about this is that I am already trying to climb the ladder here, so the ph.d would be a huge advantage since I am already working at my employer.

Anyone who is obtaining a ph.d in these two areas or anyone who is knowledgeable about these career fields render some advice?

Did I do my homework? Yeah, can u tell? LOL!
