Hello Criminal Justice

Hi all I am a brand new member of this forum, and hope to find some information to help me decide on which university to choose.

I am considering: Capella, CTU, American Public University(APUS), and Northcentral University (NCU) at the bachelor's level, Criminal Justice.

I have in fact sent in the enrollment/application fee, and the necessary permissions to request my transcripts. One of my evaluation criteria will be how much credit I will be getting for prior learning. I have an AA degree and a lot of other education in IT and Security.

My applications were done at the beginning of November, so the transcripts will be received shortly. At that point I will have to make my decision. I feel lucky to have found this site before I make this very important decision.

If anyone reading this can comment positively or negatively on the 4 universities above, I welcome your response and I hope to contribute back once I have made my determination.

Feel free to mention any other online university that you can recommend.

Hello my name is Carrie and i am 55yrs. old i have an Associate Degree and i am seeking futher education into my Bachelors Degree.

I will be majoring in Psychology/ Substance Abuse Counseling is the concentration point for my academic and career goal.

Hi! I am currently trying to patch academic holes in my transcripts from a local community college, and due to my graveyard-shift job going to school durirng the day is extremely hard. I know about National University but they are priced out of my range. Are there any other on-line schools or community colleges that have a great on-line program and are WASC accredited? Hi,

in early August I found this forum. I was just about to go back to school after decades out and I was terrified. I got some good encouragement from some folks here. I also spent a lot of time reading the blogs and other posts. I wanted to post a brief update of how I am doing so far.

I am currently enrolled in an online Health Information Technology program. This semester I have 3 classes (9 credits). It's past the half way point for the semester and I've never worked so hard in my life. However, I am loving it! I love the convenience of studying when I can. I am a night owl by nature so studying in the middle of the night suits me just fine sometimes. I love not having to drive anywhere to class. When my children are sick (H1N1 was here last month) I don't have to worry about missing class to stay home with them. As a matter of fact I have been wondering why I never thought to do this before now.

Anyway I just wanted to express my thanks for this forum and the people who keep it going. You have made a difference in my life and I wanted you to know that.

I just found this site a few weeks ago and I am very excited about exploring the contents it contains.

I am a 44 year old online student at Colorado Technical University Online studying Business Administration with a concentration in project management. I am scheduled to complete my undergraduate degree in February of 2010.

I owned an electrical contracting business in the United States from 1997 until April of 2008 when I sold my business and moved with my wife and family to Ansbach, Germany. My wife is a contracting officer with the US Dept. of Defense and we have talked about living abroad for years. With the economy sinking quickly in the US the timing was perfect for us to make the move and I was fortunate enough to find a buyer for my business at a price that would allow us to live on a single income for several years while I pursued two of my lifes goals...earning a degree and writing a novel. I do not know at this time if I plan on going back into business when we return to the States or if I plan on doing free lance project management work. The latter is more attractive because it would allow us to live abroad and to be honest we are quite enamored with living outside of the United States. We will see how this plays out.

My wife is working on a MBA degree from the University Of Phoenix and is scheduled to complete it in August of 2010. The Dept. of Defense is paying for her graduate degree which is an incredible opportunity. For the naysayers out their who think the online schools are diploma mills let me just say that the number of military people who have degrees from online universities would stagger your imagination. These degrees are, for the most part, paid for by the military and the recipients are then hired by the military. Say what you will about the military but one thing that is a fact is that it is very well managed from a human resources point of view. If the degrees they were paying for were not producing the results they were seeking they would no longer pay for them. There is no stigma attached to an online degree at all in the Military and in fact the perecption is that a person who has earned such a degree is self motivated, able to work without direct supervision, and capable of thinking thorugh and solving problems on their own, These are qualities that are highly valued by most employers and any employer who is more concerned with where a degree comes from instead of what the holder is capable of is not going to be a strong employer in todays world anyway.

Anyway I look forward to reading and posting to these forums and finding out about other peoples thoughts and experiences with online education. This is the future of education and we are the pioneers of the evolution.

Hi All,

I am a single mom, working 24 hours a week and homeschooling my 3 children AND thinking about going back to school. I am in the research stage and becoming more and more confused each day. I am overwhelmed with the amount of options that are out there for on-line learners. This is a big decision and I want to make the right decisions for me and my family and my future. Every time I think I have narrowed down the options another school possibility pops up with a major that I think might be a better fit. At this point I am leaning towards a major in Interdisciplinary Studies because that way I could combine my interests. If anyone has any advice on how you finally chose a college then please let me know. My biggest factors have been cost, majors available, accreditation and (and this seems dumb) how good of a website they have so I can gather information. I am seriously considering Columbia Southern, Regent, Liberty, Walden and Capella. I would love some feedback.

I work for a Farm Publication that sells advertisement space. I deal with a lot of ad agencies and other people that have business degrees. My question to you is --- I have been in cosmetologist most of my life and with it goes a different type of sales and this is in person.

With the job I am in now, I do a lot of cold calling and am not always sure how to approach a client and how to actually sell that client. I would really like to know the basics or do some refresher coarse. What classes do you suggest I take. I have been looking at internet marketing and multimedia design. It seems like every thing seems to be leaning towards internet marketing and web design. I would also like to effectively be able to put together a power point presentation for our larger clients. Are there any marketing programs that offer this in a package? I already have the program.

I recently got my diploma at Penn Foster for Web Design and loved it. I thought it was a very involved program. Very good. We recently got our new website at work and another part of my job is to sell advertisment on our site and sell in print media as well. I am hopeing to be able to sell the web advertisement and print media as a package deal. I was looking at Associates in internet technology/multimedia design.

I just want to do my job better and know what I am talking about. Just don't want to spend a lot of money or time. I just want to get in there and do it. I have no formal training in this type of sales. What do you suggest?

My educational and working background is: Chinese nursing certificate 15 years ago, and had been a nurse in China for 4 year: Occupational Therapy Bachelor degree in New Zealand and was an OT for more than 1 year. really want to gain a master degree in the US in healthcare field, but not sure where to start. By the way, I only can study online and not familiar with business stuff...

I've just finished my Medical Insurance Billing and Coding in a technical school in Georgia last 2007. I was afraid to take the certification exam thinking that it won't help me land a job. It's useless to pass the exam without an experience in most cases I've seen in advertisement on the internet. The irony is that the school I've attended to wasn't credited by the CAHIM or the AHIMA in which it is one of the requirements in taking the coder's certification exam or much so the RHIT. I hope you can share to me the list of accredited schools, whether it's online or not in GA. by the AHIMA or the CAHIM. Until now, I'm unemployed. I'm thinking of getting a job like the Medical Records Clerk while continuing my education online so that my earnings would go to my student loan. I really am having a hard time looking for a job who would let me work while studying online.

In addition to that, I would just like to ask if my subjects would be credited if in case I've planned to enroll thorugh online in the Medical Records Clerk(RHIT)program, since some of the subjects are related to each other...like the Medical Terminology, HIPAA, Human and Anatomy...

Hi guys,

I am so grateful for this site coz had I not checked it out I could have continued sending my hard earned money to a questionable institution. I have been taking a Master in International Relations at Atlantic International University and it is only yesterday that I got to read about the possibility of it being a degree mill. It got worse when I read about the federal charges that I could face given that I have been sending my CV to both local and international organizations for job placements! Maybe it isa adegree mill maybe it is not but I am sure I do not want to continue spending my time, money and energy on a degree that might not be of benefit to me in the long run.

That brings me to the help part.....Istill want to study International Relations at Master Level. I would also still like to take it online given that I am not able to get to the classes physically. (Im Kenyan by birth and domicile) Consequently, I would like to get some information on which schools can offer me the course online. Being an international student I would prefer something that is tailored for international students and is affordable, flexible and recognised.

I'm a 30 year old father of two working a full time night job. I'm interested in expanding my education through an online school to further my goals of taking care of my family. I haven't done anything remotely school related in over 10 years. Looking at some remedial algebra math problems i shook my head and said "I can't remember this" and have put the whole online education thing on the back burner. This was a few months ago and i think i'm ready to really start doing something like this. I've been researching online programs and my area of interest is information security. I have no idea where to start but i did register at the DoE's FAFSA website and received a pin. I'm just feeling a bit daunted by what would need to be done to begin something like this and was curious as to where to actually start off getting my education furthered.
