Linfield College offers a fully accredited online RN-BSN degree, one of the best in the nation. In addition, the Linfield College "Online College Guide" is a great resource for students considering online-based study.

I want to become a elementary public school teacher in NYC. However, I work 8 hrs a day and would find it impossible for me to attend traditional schools like hunter or City College. So, I have decided to research masters in education programs leading to licensure and that are offered completely online. I am seriously considering Grand Canyon University. I would like to know if their Masters of Art in Education requires fieldwork, and if so can I postpone it until the last part of the masters program? Will I be able to do my student teaching in NYC? Hi I received my masters of education from Grand Canyon. Check with your state board of education before you enroll at the school. My program did not entail student teaching, because I pursued lateral entry in my state of NC. Student teaching can be done locally at a school in your district. Not all programs require student teaching, unless you seek a teaching certificate from the school. GCU does have some programs that are not credential earning if you want to put off student teaching, but check with the state of NY before you enroll.

Hi, I received one of my masters from Grand Canyon University. The school is not a diploma mill, it is regionally accredited by one of the 6 regional accrediting bodies. The classes are 8 weeks and you normally have at least 2 group projects in each class. Assignments range from projects and papers you have to write. I received an Education Masters from the school, so I dont know how the Nursing programs work, but I am sure it is the same. The school has flexible start dates, so a person can enroll every 8 weeks. I hope that helps.

As a correction, the University of Phoenix has campuses all over the country. In fact, I believe they have more students on campus than online.

I am from AZ and I know a ton of our hosptial nurses have attended GCU nursing programs. They all speak very highly of the program and it is difficult - rigious. They said it was a great expereince and the teachers are great. I know they have a ton of different programs and are ranked one of the largest nursing schools in the state (bigger than the state schools). I know they are a traditional school so they are not like UOP or other online schools.

GCU's Masters in Elementary Education is 45 credits and is completely online until your student teaching requirement at the end of your program (16 weeks full time). GCU has representatives nationwide that help set up the student teaching in your area in a state approved school. GCU's program is a state approved education progam.. but they always recommend that you gain approval/confirmation through the State Board of Education in the state you are wanting to teach. GCU has several MSN programs that are highly recognized and accredited:

MSN-Leadership, MSN-Education, MBA and MSN-Leadership dual program, FNP, CNP

I'm so glad you are doing your research and you are definitely asking the right questions. I am actually an enrollment counselor for Grand Canyon University and would be happy to answer any questions you have and point you to some resources to research.

Accreditation is the MOST important thing when you are choosing a college: visit http://www.elearners.com/college/gcu/ for specific information on this.

GCU is a traditional private Christian college with dorms, sports...etc. and has been around since 1949. A LOT of their programs are now 100% available online, including the RN to BSN. Some of the highlights of GCU's program that differs from others you will find is that GCU does a "block transfer" of your credits so you won't have pre-requisits like Algebra to do. It's 15 classes, 100% online, no clinical rotations, and no manditory outside group work. It's designed and taught by RN's. I wish you the best in the search for the right BSN program! ~Kim

Good questions, but ones probably best answered by a GCU enrollment counselor. First, however, I would advise you to go through http://schools.nyc.gov/teachnyc/ which talks specifically about how to become a New York City public school teacher! It's a great resource.

Yes, GCU offers a MS in Nursing Leadership in Health Care Systems.

Grand Canyon University is regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Also, both the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the Arizona State Board of Nursing accredit the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program.

Grand Canyon University is definitely NOT a diploma mill.
