Any thoughts or advice on any other school choices or what schools have a decent program to cover the additional 24 credits needed? Would love to get a response from someone currently in accounting or knowledgable about these requirements. What are accounting students doing to handle this? As I am sure most colleges havent adopted the 150 hrs they are just sending kids through to the Masters program. I am currently a student at Grand Canyon University (GCU) looking to change schools. My major reasons are cost and not having exactly the program I need to pass Massachusetts. CPA standards. I am looking at Western Governers University (WGU), they are cheap, have a Bach. of Science degree in accounting and I believe I will succeed in their self paced model. The only dowmside with WGU is that I would have to continue on into a masters program in accounting to get the needed courses to take the CPA exam.

The other school is Herzing University, they have a program in accounting that is for meeting guidlines of the states CPA boards and is the 150 credit program with the requiered accounting classes included. The down side is cost at $405 a credit that is alot though it does include books.

Is there anyone else out there pursuing your CPA completely online? What online schools do you recommend? Are there any students in the accounting program at WGU? Is there anyone with experience getting into a masters program after WGU? What do you think of it? Any other comments on WGU and Herzing U. is greatly appreciated

lmanlief

Looking for a masters in education...

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been involved in an online elementary education masters program from any school that you could recommend or steer me away from? I have been teaching for 11 years and have recently been giving the job of elementary math & science specialist. No one is requiring it, but I feel that I should have a masters degree to back up that title!! I want to make sure that I am as prepared as possible for the job and challenges that are ahead of me.

With that said, I am looking for something that is challenging, but not just that it requires tons of work. I am hoping to find something where I can have an elementary math focus. I know that Kaplan, U of P, and Walden have programs like these. Any experience with these schools and their education programs?

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!!

Which university accept Penn Foster certification for credit transfer?

Hi Guys, I am actually student in associate degree programm at Penn Foster. I am completing this year and would like to know if you are aware of any Us or Canadian universities who accept Penn Foster degree for credit transfer. Is there any university/college which recognize Penn Foster for completion degree program?
MSN Program- Questions

Hello I am looking for any and all opinions from anyone that has been in the WGU MSN program. The flexibility and freedom of this truly self paced learning program is very appealing to me.

There are a few questions that remain in my mind I need answered to really make a final decision. I am considerably worried I may not be able to find sufficient academic help if I were to get stuck. With no actual professor to ask specific questions or bounce my thoughts off of - can I truly rely 100% on my designated mentor to help me? Or is the online community generally open to providing and receiving help from others? I am just worried I may get caught in an unforseen difficulty on a late night, and not be able to get the help I need in a timely manner. Are the resources provided at WGU truly reliable? Should I consider a more B&M traditionally based online school if this is of much concern?

Another general concern of mine is being able to transfer my BS in IT after I have earned it to another school for a Master's degree. My enrollment advisor told me that WGU graduates its students with a grade considered as a "B." He also mentioned some upper schools may require higher requirements in order to transfer for a Master's. Is this a limitation to be worried about?

I keep reading so many good things about this school, maybe I am just trying to look for the bad. I guess I am just looking for assurance that this online university is really as great as what I've read.

Any feedback or general views would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

PS - I am also a bit worried about the proctored exams and finding a location in Northwest Ohio. I am hoping this could be worked out ahead of time.

Transferring courses?

Hi Everyone!

I have a few questions about WGU. I was thinking of starting the teacher education program at the bachelors level. Heres my questions:

1) Do they accept CLEP credits? I know its competency based, but do they wavier certain assessments if you have enough courses in a certain area? I have 30 clep credits and nearly 50 credits from a 4 year college.

2) Do they limit how many assessments/ competency units you can take in a certain term? If I have 40 hours a week to study and do assessments, how many could I fit in during a single term?

3) Has anyone experienced the bachelors level program versus the graduate level teacher prep program? Would anyone suggest one over another taking into account the point I would be at in my education?

Thanks :)

WGU featured in TIME Magazine

WGU Featured in TIME Magazine Article, “Go Western, Young Man,” 11/24/08.

Be sure to read this wonderful article about WGU in TIME. It was an interesting experience.

I took 2 courses in Leadership. One was assignment based and the second had an objective exam. For the assigment based course I enrolled in Wasatch E-learning course. It helped me keep to the schedule and discuss subject matter with other students taking the course. I tried to keep to a 2 hour daily routine and when possible added an extra hour. The first course that included writing 5 essays took me 9-10 weeks. It was quite hard to keep up with the job and the course but I was happy when it was over.

For the second course I followed the included schedule that charted out the complete course. I studied for about 8 weeks before I scheduled the exam. Again I kept to the same routine. I took notes during those 8 weeks. In the 2 weeks before the exam I just went through my notes.

Overall, I think if I can keep to the routine the courses will be completed without too much difficulty. But it is not an easy task to keep to the routine specially with an IT job that requires supports at unearthly hours.

Something that I miss at WGU is interaction with peers. There are some forums but I haven't explored them fully yet. Plan to do so during my next term.

Interviews with Online Students at Western Governors University

Randy, MBA at Western Governors University

Henry, B.S. in Business Administration

More coming soon...

Download documents about the Western Governors University - Free at eLearners.com!

Hey guys!

Did you know that eLearners.com has course catalogs and student handbooks? This is my very first post, although I've lurked as a guest for a while. I've recently decided that I want to go to college, my main interest is computers and I'm also interested in information security. I work full time and feel that taking courses online is the way to go for me. There are so many colleges and degree programs and opinions about them that it's a bit overwhelming!

I think I may have narrowed I down to two, W.G.U. and C.T.U. Both look very intriguing and include some very useful certifications received by the time you graduate. I also realize that W.G.U. is competency-based and not for the someone who can't give it their full attention, and probably a different experience than C.T.U.

I was wondering if anyone here has attended or is attending either can rate their experience there for me, and quality of education.

Thank you in advance!

MCO

Wester Governors University

Any opinions on this school? I was reading up on them and they offer competency-based programs. I've never heard of that before so I thoght maybe someone might have an insight. The cost doesn't seem bad at all as they charge per term and not per credit. Any thoughts?

BA degree in early childhood

Hello

Ive been looking for a online Bachelors degree preferably in early childhood degree (living outside usa) and was thinking of asking does anyone have any experience with any of the unis.
