I need some direction in gatherin feedback from "students" in the Penn Foster Online Vet Tech degree program.I have spent the last 5 years trying to complete the Vet Tech Distance Learning program at Purdue. I've taken 5-7classes Spring, Summer & Fall for 4 years and only have 12 credits left to graduate. The remaining credits arevideo taped clinical requirements. I took 6 clinicals in the spring semester and waited 4 months before they were processed and returned to me. I had to cancel my summer session and sit out the fall semester while I waited for my spring semester results. I pressured Purdue to process my clinicals after waiting 3 1/2 months and only made "the powers that be" angry. My clinicals were rejected for reasons such as - they couldn't see my face in the video, the background noise (clients/pets) was too noisy, an oxygen tube was blocking the view of my videoed task, my finger blocked the view of a subcutaneous injection - the list goes on & on. I am required to ask my employer to commit to another semester of re-doing tasks he already approved. It requires practicing on client animals and co-workers taking time to help again. And then another 4-5 months awaiting the results of any second attempt. All the while - I'm not getting any further in the clinical program.
I've carried a 3.2 GPA & never missed a semester in the 5 years I took classes. Now that I'm very close to completing the program, the clinicals are causing a great deal of heartburn and look to be adding another 2-3 yrs to the already lengthy program. I'm 53 yrs old and will only get a few years out of any degree I manage to acquire. I'm not interested in jumping thru Purdue's hoops anymore. I've researched Penn Foster's Vet Tech program as much as I'm finding available. They accepted transfer of one semester of my credits. At this point, I'm just trying to find out what their clinical requirements entail. I would like to get feedback from a current student to find out if Penn Foster's clinicals are"do-able" before I redo 75% of another vet tech program.
Does anyone know how I could research the format of the clinical practicum in Penn Foster's program?
Thanks,
Jill
