The Wall Street Journal published an article on October 11th reporting that there is new legislation that forgives student loan debt for folks who work in careers focused on helping others (e.g. public health, law enforcement, and those who become a lawyer serving the public interest.
The White House has posted a special release discussing this legislation. It's called the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007.
During the signing of the Act, the President addressed the audience: "The bill I sign today increases funding for Pell Grants by $11.4 billion over the next five years. It allows us to increase the maximum award from $4,310 -- to $5,400 by 2012."
