I just came across an article in the online version of the Wall Street Journal. It lists a number of cost-cutting devices for these perilous financial times including online learning.
No, they are not talking about higher education. They are referring to the many online K-12 schools now available that are free. Some are charter schools and some are run by state departments of education, but there are now bunches of them. I know that my site lists 131 free online high schools alone (and I don't even list the K-8 schools!). That's a bunch.
For those of us with a vested interest in online learning, this article is a wonderful thing. Why? Because it's not about online learning. That was just one piece of it. Perhaps online learning is coming of age.
