I'd call on the phone and ask to speak with the Director of Admissions.

    Hi kefire,

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Penn Foster is a legit school, though. I would go with Steve's advice and contact their Director of Admissions.

Seems strange that a college would ask for a WUCC but Western Union gives you a money tracking number that shows who picked it up and when, they cover you also if they gave it to the wrong person.  I would get confirmation from them to use to influence the school that your payment was received.

Re: penn foster took my money and sent me nothin

When I first started searching out schools I called this school. They asked for some info to send me information, my mistake was giving my social. They later sent me information and then enrolled me in that program. Which was fine, I just called and told them more or less F off. Well they started billing me with these payment books. So i called them again and stated I have not been involved in your classes, all i did was request info and now its on my credit. I mean thank god i didnt sign anything, so its being taken off my credit. But still and yet, there billing practices are a nightmare. Plus the education is not that great from the garbage they were sending.

    hope this helps!

I've said it here before, and I'll mention it again:  don't bother emailing Penn Foster College.  You'll usually only get an automated reply.  They are so large (second only to University of Phoenix in U.S. enrollment), that I don't think they are able to reply to email any other way.  Keep calling them on the phone, and if you don't get what you need from the person you are speaking to, then ask for their supervisor and keep going up the chain of command until you get the result you want. If you don't get any satisfaction dealing with anyone at Penn Foster College, contact the Better Business Bureau, of which they are a member, or alternatively, contact the DETC.  That would definitely get their attention.

I have been a student at PFC for the past 2 years, and I have never had a billing problem with them.  I wasn't even aware that they accepted payments by Western Union.  These posts also bring up another good point:  NEVER give ANYONE your Social Security number unless you intend to enroll in a program.  They would not need it for any other reason.

I enrolled for my program online, so I guess that helped me bypass any potential billing problems.

As for the quality of the program, I'm not sure what materials you consider "garbage", but I have looked up my textbooks on other web sites such as Amazon.com, and the books I get included with my program would otherwise cost me an average of $200 each.  They are regular college textbooks.

I am sure all problems can be solved with the right tack.

There is only one reason cheap programs exist.  That is by stretching service as far as possible.  When you can complete a semester for under $1,000 when books alone cost that much at some schools.

There are options to be weighed.  I thrive on neglect.  For those that need spoon-feeding, it's probably the wrong school.

That's a good point, Dennis.  There is definitely no "hand holding" at PFC.  You are on your own.  Sure, they have instructors available by phone if you have a question about something, but when you are a student at PFC you are doing all of the heavy lifting on your own.

If you can work independently with absolutely no supervision whatsoever, PFC is a good, cheap choice.  If you need input from instructors or other students, this is definitely not the school for you.

    Hi!

I am so sorry about your problem and I hope you have settled it by now. If not, and you are still planning on going to school, I would lke to let you know the one that I am attending. They have several different programs, so feel free to check it out. The staff are like family to me and the studies are very comprehensive. Let me know how you are doing!
