    Networking @ AMU

I am new Member of this Forum, as well as a New Student at AMU.  I am finishing up a BA in Security Management.

My question is about "Networking" at AMU.  More specifically, is it encouraged or frowned upon?  It seems like ALOT of the Professors and Students are in the same line of work, so it definitely seems like it would exist.

    Thanks,Dave

That's an interesting question.  I used to do career services, not at AMU but at a somewhat similar school, and I know our instructors were often part time and had day jobs in industry, and they used to hire promising students.  I expect that most schools realize that a primary reason students are there is to get a better job and wouldn't have a problem.

How is the security management BA? I am considering getting a MA in Security Management, but am worried about the job outlook on it. I currently have a BA in CJ and think I may need to broaden myself.

Security is a funny industry because of 2 reasons in my opinion.  First is that it is literally exploding compared to 10 years ago.  No longer is security a Barney Fife lookalike in a bank with a 50 year old six shooter and a cheap blue polyester shirt.  It has become a profession in hot demand globally.  But what makes it peculiar is that with all the demand you rarely see security management positions listed at least in my area.  Why?  Because usually those jobs are obtained through direct networking and more often than not by those with years in law enforcement.  The irony and second reason this is a peculiar industry is because law enforcement and security have little in common aside from badges and guns.
