What level, Associate, Bachelor, or Master's? And in what subject? And how did you narrow things down to JIU and GCU? -=Steve=-

Re: deciding between jiu or grand canyon
I meant jones international university, sorry for the confusion. I want to get a BA in healthcare management. There are actually a few other universities like TUI and Capella. I am a former student at UoP and didn't like the team projects that I was stuck doing in every class. The universities I mentioned had discounted tuition rates and good reviews, that is why I am leaning towards them. Does anyone know whether you're required to work in group projects or learning teams with any of these universities?

Re: deciding between jiu or grand canyon
Hi, I go to Grand Canyon University (GCU) and out of eight classes so far two of them had group projects. I like the group projects, it's a nice change of pace and I have found the teachers grade on how much effort they see me put into the project. I really like GCU. and I have not had any problems with the school. I cannot coment on your program because I am going for a business degree but I have met alot of people in my general ed. classes who are in other fields and they seem happy with their program. The only down side to GCU is the price, but after bad experiences at two other online schools (Stayer and South Universities) I don't mind paying for a good school. I hope this helps with your decision. Good Luck in your studies. lmanlief

Well, I know the Dean of Online Studies for Sullivan University personally. Since I know that he's a really committed guy who cares to make his programs be the best they can be, I'd lean toward them just for that reason. But I'd be the first to admit that because of that I know more about them than most of the others, and the others might be just as good.

From the list Steve pointed you to I would lean toward Bellevue or Ashford University. Bellevue is especially military-friendly, and Ashford has a good reputation as a distance-learning provider, which Cajun can confirm.

Cajun, Thanks for your help. What are the classes like at Ashford? Do you have to do group projects? Do you take test or is it basically weekly essays? Thanks again.

Re: deciding between jiu or grand canyon
Manlief, What are the classes like at Grand Canyon? Do mostly write research papers or do you have to take test also? How much time to do spend studying? I was told that you have to do weekly research papers. Is that true? Thanks for your help.

Re: deciding between jiu or grand canyon
HI bnmiller,
Yes I have done weekly research papers for all my classes except Math where we had homework and quizzes. The papers are typically 500 - 750 words in APA format. Some teachers are pickier then others about staying within APA guidelines. We also have to post about two discussion questions and the teachers do want a substantive posting. I spend around 15 - 20 hours studying. There is a lot of reading, but I believe this is true for most schools. I have attended a couple of ground schools and this is my third online school ( I went to Strayer and South University before) I like the fact that they do not have a high turnover of staff as in the other schools and I have found all my insructors so far really care that thier students are learning. I like the eight week term at GCU compared with the five week term at South University. Also I worked with a great lady getting in to the school, we talk regularly and she (and her daughter) also are students at GCU. Let me know if you want her contact info. Oh, one other thing GCU is a non-denominational christian school. They do require two classes in bible study. I found the religious classes interesting and there were people from different religions not just christiians. I hope that helps. If you need more info let me know. Good luck in your decision. manlief
