Online Accounting Degree - Advice Needed

I am looking for an accounting degree offered 100% online with no proctor requirements and real textbooks.  The less expensive, the better.  Any suggestions?

Do you know the licensing requirements for CPAs in your state?  For example in Texas the credits must be from a regionally accredited school, a minimum of 30 credit hours overall at the upper division or better and with no more than 15 of those hours earned online.  Each state has their own criterion.

150 credits from regionally accredited college, at least 30 accounting credits.  No limitation on online or not.

Re: Online Accounting Degree - Advice Needed

Okay, so it sounds like you need a regionally accredited BS, likely in accounting or at least with a minor in accounting, then an additional 30 hours beyond the typical 120 hours required for a BS, or what would be the equal to a masters degree.  As for no proctor, can't help you there.  As for recommending a BS in Accounting...  http://www.elearners.com/search/online-degrees/bachelor/accounting.htm?page=1

Of those listed, Golden Gate University is AACSB which may be good to have for licensure in your state, though I have not checked that specific requirement.  Start with that list and hit us back if you have any questions.

03 Applications For Examination, Reexamination, And

    Reciprocal Certificate.

    (1) Applications for Examination and Reexamination

prior to the implementation of a computerbased

    examination.

    (a) Except as provided in Rule 30X4.

    03(2),

applications for the May examination must be in the Board's

office not later than the preceding February 28th and

applications for the November examination must be in the Board's

office not later than the preceding August 31st. It is the

responsibility of the applicant to ensure that applications are

actually received in the Board's Office by the specified dates.

    (b) Applicants for the examination who are March or

August college graduates and who qualify under the provisions of

    Rule 30X4.

02 will be permitted an extension of time for filing

applications for the examination which immediately follows their

graduation. March graduates' applications must be received not

later than 15 days after the date of their graduation; August

graduates' applications must be received not later than the next

    September 15th.

    (c) Applications for reexamination, in whole or in

part, must be in the Board's office not later than March 31 for

the May examination and not later than September 30 for the

    November examination.

    (d) It is the responsibility of each applicant to make

timely delivery of the required forms and fees. Requesting an

application form prior to the deadline date does not constitute

    timely filing.

    (2) Applications for Examination and Reexamination

upon the implementation of a computerbased

    examination.

    (a) Applications to take the Certified Public

Accountant Examination must be made on a form provided by the

Board and filed with the Board by a due date specified by the

    Board.

    (b) An application will not be considered filed until

the application fee and examination fee required by these rules

and all required supporting documents have been received,

including proof of identity as determined by the Board and

specified on the application form, official transcripts and proof

that the candidate has satisfied the education requirement.

Only 1 problem with the above, it could easily be argued that the ACBSP and AACSB are equal, but I'm not sure I would risk it without getting an opinion from an official of the state IN WRITING before making a decision.

That's when you have to take a test, but they don't just send it to you and let you take it without supervision.  You have a proctor who's a trusted third party who oversees you taking the test.  Often the school will have you nominate someone who's in a particular profession, like a teacher or librarian or something, and who's not a relative.  It's not usually a difficult process.

Re: Online Accounting Degree - Advice Needed

A degree in accounting is an excellent option. I just graduated with an online Bachelor of Science Degree from Stevens-Henager College. Apart from being accredited, the course emphasizes an understanding of business and financial concepts and how they relate to professional accounting — including the principles of federal taxation, auditing, and accounting for small businesses and corporations. It also offers a fast track option where you can complete your online accounting degree in as little as 36 months.
