    Question about American Military University?

Hello.  I am active duty Air Force.  I was checking out the Associates of Arts in Web Publishing and Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology at American Military University.  I mainly want to open a Web Designer Business to create websites for Christian organizations (churches, non-profit organizations, and outreach ministries).

Are any of you military personnel that have attended American Military University Online?  Are they a trustworthy college?  Are they accredited regionally, nationally, and geographically?  Can you give me a general explanation of what they are all about?  I want to get my peers opinions before I go to an admissions advisor.  You know how advisors can talk a real good game until they get you admitted.

I had problems with Kaplan University talking a good game, but not living up to what they are talking about.  I also saw the crooket stuff Kaplan University was doing at www.ripoffreport.com.  You guys ought to check that stuff out.  What is your opinion about American Military University?  Are they the same as Kaplan University?

    Thanks.

AMU is both regionally and nationally accredited.  Also, as a Kaplan student, I have never had any problems.  Any school that is large with thousands of students is going to have complaints.

Re: Question about American Military University?

As has been pointed out already, AMU is accredited, both regionally and nationally, so the accreditation is up to snuff.  I have heard nothing but good things about AMU from the students I have chatted with.   The course work is rigorous, and you will definitely get an education.  I know that many military personnel have attended AMU, particularly for graduate degrees.  As you can probably tell from the school's name, they are geared toward service members, and they go out of their way to cater to them.

In regard to Rip Off Report and similar web sites, keep in mind that these are what I call "b*tch and complain" sites.  Your not going to read anything but complaints on those sites.  What about the thousands of other students that don't have any problems at all?  They aren't going to bother to post at Rip Off Report.com, so take what you read there with a grain of salt.  No school is for everybody.  You have to select the one that works best for your particular needs.

I would be careful about taking sites like ripoffreport.com too seriously for the reasons Terry said.  And I too have never heard a student who was particularly dissatisfied with AMU.  They seem to do a good job.

    Hello,
To answer your questions, I am currently active duty and took courses with AMU. I liked the university the courses were easy to schedule, people very helpful, and the way the courses were set up was easy to follow. They have so many degree programs and classes that it's worth looking into. You can choose to take 8 or 16 weeks classes. I'd say go for it.

I work with a guy who is an AMU alumni and he has had nothing but great things to say about the school.  My little brother is considering APUS (their sister school) for an AS through them and from everything I've seen and hear from them, they would be a good choice.

I completed one of my masters degrees from AMU. The program is awesome. I'm prior active duty AF and currently a reservist. The tuition is cheap and they have a lot of unique majors and programs that you won't find at other schools. I would highly recommend AMU.

I'm not surprised -- they get a lot of good response here from their students.  Good luck!
