Hello,

          I had researched online colleges previously based upon my expectation of paying it all myself, and decided on Penn Foster for a graphic design degree. I am not looking for a loan, don't want any debt hanging over me. I just recently got my GED test results back and scored a 3550 total, with a 710 average, which according to their chart, puts me in the top 1%. So now I'm wondering about scholarships. So far(just beginning my research) the only scholarships I've seen that can be used for online education were not merit based, kind of luck of the draw. Does anyone know of any that would take my score into account so I'd have a better chance? Thanks.

Scholarships for distance education are few and far between.  Penn Foster as far as I know do not offer any.  That being said there may be some local organizations that offer scholarships such as rotary clubs, lion's clubs, shriners, churches, who knows but you'll have to do some digging.  That being said Penn Foster is exceptionally inexpensive.

Okay, but seriouisly, Cajun's right that scholarships for distance learning students are very rare.  One thing you can try is our own scholarship search:

But the good news is that PFC is so inexpensive you can't end up in too deep a hole either way.

Okay Steve, you shouldn't tease me- I've been out of school for 25 yrs and studied very hard for the GED, so, naturally I was thrilled that I did well on it. It's not an easy test, only 65% of graduating seniors pass it 1st try, with a average score in the 500s. (yes, I know I'm being defensive)

   But to clarify my post to you & Cajun (and thanks also for the reply), what I meant was although I had decided on PFC for their affordability, I thought now perhaps, I might be able to consider other schools, especially if the gov. would kick in some. After researching some it looks as if I should stick with PFC, I can't believe how much $ per credit hour some of the schools cost. Even with help, I would be stuck for $20,000 at least, and I don't have that kind of money. I did check and am not eligible for the Pell grant. Thanks for all your help,
