What will happen to the extra funds

Ok I'm confused I was at University of Phoenix decided to withdraw since my funds for their second term were gonna be disbursed in May I have half of my pell grant and half of my stafford loan. So I am going to be enrolling in Peru State and their tuition is way less so I will start in the summer whatever money is left over I will use part of it for my summer tuition but whatever is left over (which will be a lot) what will happen to that money I know it won't be saved for  the next semester because by then the funds for 2009/2010 funds should be disbursed. Will this left over money be sent back to the government or be given to me?? What if I qualify for a CAL Grant since I'm in California will all that be given to me??? Will somebody give me some insight??????Confused

Sounds like a call to your financial aid office is in order.

I don't believe that you can get a big check for money you're not actually using on education, but I'm not an expert on this and I agree with Cajun that these are all questions for your financial aid officer.

Would Peru State College be considered a private university?

No.  It's a public university, part of the Nebraska state university system.

This link will take you to info on pell grants and returning of monies.  http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/legislation.html

If your school pays out the pell grant, any remaining money will be returned to the government.  If they dispurse the monies to you, and then you in return pay the school, you will be responsible to return the money to the government and the school should notify you.

I am having the HARDEST time getting any info from UOP or my so called finance advisor at UOP. I have been awarded the cal grant B for 09/10 and they are telling me that they know nothing about it. I have called the Federal Student Aid line and the Cal Grant Info line. They keep telling me that the school has info. I think UOP is only out to get and keep your funds.

Maybe you shoudl try talking to someone other than your financial aid advisor, like perhaps a supervisor?  I'd keep blowing up their phones until someone gave me an answer.  See if you can get the Cal Grant people to state in writing that UofP has your/their money, that should get some attention.  An email will suffice.

If they also have a Business office, or Student Accounts, or something like that, someone other than Financial Aid but who deals with money, I'd enlist their help too.  But I'm with Cajun that I would go crazy until that sort of thing is resolved.
