    Re: copywriting course

I would suggest courses focusing on grammar and composition skills. Gotham Writer's Workshop offers some really good stuff (http://www.elearners.com/college/wcc/), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has some writing courses (see below). http://www.elearners.com/college/unc/

English Composition and Grammar - Self-Paced
English Composition and Rhetoric - Self-Paced
English Composition and Rhetoric - Self-Paced
    Foundations of Composition - Self-Paced

    Re: copywriting course

Just curious ... why are you only interested in a "proper university"?

    Re: copywriting course

Hi Helen - I actually spent a few minutes doing a web search on this topic and I found very few university courses in this subject area.  I don't think that any of them were available through distance learning.  On the other hand, there seemed to be quite a number of organizations offering opportunities to learn about this topic through various means, some of them through distance learning.  As you may be suggesting, it's quite possible that this is a subject area that is NOT best learned through a "proper university" and perhaps the original poster should be open to other sorts of opportunities.  As always, it is best to be careful about where you buy your education but this does not mean that a universitiy is the only reliable source of knowledge.

    Hi,

I am looking for a proper university cuz. their courses are more readily recognised.

If u say there are no univ. courses, then do u know of any good organisations offering this course.

If I see correctly that you're in India, does Indira Gandhi National Open University have a program that would suit you?  They're definitely a proper university, and I know they have many, many programs.

    Re: copywriting course

I agree with Steve - to check some local resources first - otherwise, here in the U.S., Gotham Writing Workshops are well-known, and also rated a Forbes.com "Best of the Web" (http://www.forbes.com/bow/b2c/review.jhtml?id=6408).

They keep very small class sizes (less than 18) and offer a variety of writing courses, from fiction writing to science fiction writing to business and travel writing. Check out: http://www.elearners.com/college/wcc/

    Re: copywriting course

I haven't been able to find anything specific, either, so I'll just assume they are hidden away under misleading course titles in the marketing and advertising curricula ;-)

However, if you check with the librarian at your friendly, local public library, he/she can steer to you some excellent books on copywriting that will serve in a pinch.

    Try www.awaionline.com

This is not really a recommendation, because i've never taken any of their courses.  However...I do see it advertised regularly on three of my favorite online magazines:  Changing Course, Escape Artist, and International Living

Regarding 'reputable schools' as opposed to 'marketing masters'  I think you need to take a look at what you're asking.  If a copywriter is what you aspire to be...well it seems obvious to me that "marketing masters" is the name of the game, and therefore why not learn from the real world pros.

Just hearing you say that makes me miss living abroad.  If my kids from a previous marriage didn't live here, we'd never have come back to the States....
