Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...

Most people working in career services usually have to have the passion for helping people with job searching.  Most of the time career service workers will use the economy as an excuse to not be as effective.  Here at a nonprofit agency, we work with the welfare-to-work program called Families First to get them jobs, although we are trying to get a system implemented to perform career assessments, that way we can see what a lot of these people are trying to do with their life.  I mean, who wants to work a job for 30-35 years making $8-10/hr?? So, it's hard trying to find work these days, but there are jobs out there and the job market, believe it or not, is picking back up.  This week, we've received a much better pack and variety of job openings than last week and Memphis is known for a weak job market.

However, I do believe that career services should be working in overtime with helping individuals in post-secondary institutions, with all that's going on.  I bet students are flooding in there, because they are fearful and hopeful.  I am definitely utilizing my career services department at Capella, they have and are being, extremely helpful.
