    Re: HELLO EVERYONE!!

Hi lorilee - I think that the first thing you should do is to check the website for the Dept of Education in the state where you live.  Make sure that you understand the requirements for teacher certification.  For example, did you know that you'll have to do a student teaching internship?  That's not something that you can do through distance learning.  I just hate it when people get to that point and they don't know how they can do their internship while they work (or take care of their kids).  Beyond that, there are LOTS of programs available.  Do you want to teach little kids or older kids.  If you want to teach in a High School then you usually have to have a subject major, like History or English or Math or whatever.  If you want to teach little kids then I think a general education degree might be OK in most places.  I have some friends who tell me that if you get a degree in Special Education then you'll never be unemployed.  I know that many people don't want to work with SpEd kids but it is something to think about.  By the way, I think I recently read something from Helen saying that there was a profile of a Grand Canyon student ON THIS VERY WEBSITE!  You should check it out.  Welcome to the board.  I hope you do some reading then come back and ask some more questions.
