Snail [sn] Online Law schools, JD

    Hi everyone!

I have a B.S. degree in Political Science from the U of U.  I am interested in getting a JD.  I am in a wheelchair and bedridden a lot (DAV, USMC).  My question is will Concord Law School be the best way to go?

Concord is not accredited by the ABA, which means that your JD will be useless outside of California.  Plus, non ABA accredited law schools tend to have a low bar exam passage rate.  So personally, I would not go to Concord.

It's true.  Online law schools are only valid in California, so unless you live there, you're out of luck.

It's a shame, but the ABA has accredtiation of law schools on lockdown, and since they want as few new lawyers competing with them for clients, they refuse categorically to accredit distance programs.  There's no educational reason; it's just cartel behavior, and people like you are the victims of it.

Are you wanting to practice law in your state?  Why do you want the J.D.?

I have mobility challenges.  The traditional law school campus are too big a challenge.  The education is for my benefit and to benefit my family.  My purpose is for writing.

If all you intend to use the JD for is writing and NOT practicing law, Concord would be fine, of course William Howard Taft University is a much better deal for the price http://www.taftu.edu/

For writing what in particular?  I ask because a JD seems like a tough row to hoe just to get writing skills, although you'd surely get a lot of practice that way....

If you want a degree for writing, why not just get a degree in English or Journalism?

    Re: Online Law schools, JD

Many potential law students cannot attend a residential law school due to work or family commitments, not to mention the financial burden of tuition and travel. So, before I went to law school, I decided to look into online law schools.
My investigation indicated that one online law school, and one only, uses the traditional Socratic Method in its teaching. That school is where I now am attending, namely the California School of Law. Unlike all of the other distance learning law schools, students at this law school have passed the required "baby bar" at high rates. For a well-balanced article on the pros and cons of online law schools, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correspondence_law_school

Steve is wrong about the value of an online JD outside of California. Go to the website for the California School of Law, at http://www.californiaschooloflaw.com/index.php?page=state-bar-admissions-alternatives.
