MKT 304 How To Get Help????

    Hi,

I'm just about to finish the last of the classes I have to take to get to sixty credits and I hit a WALL when I tried to do the assignment called "The House". It's an excel based tutorial that counts for 10% of the grade. I emailed the instructor 3 times now to help me understand a concept and he hasn't been very helpful. I don't know where to turn and each assignment builds on the last one and they all have to be handed in at the same time, so I can't just guess and hand it in and get some feedback (!).

I've never had this problem before and wonder how others on this forum have been able to deal with it ?????

    Thanks

Re: MKT 304 How To Get Help????

Does PF have anyone other than the professor to contact?

As an FYI, in my accounting class at Ashford I had no idea how to perform ledger accounting using the whole "debits" and "credits" thing on an accrual basis, it just boggled my mind and emailing the instructor was pretty frustrating as well.  I had two options, call the instructor (possibly) or simply hire a tutor. It just so happened a former accountant was living at my brother's house while studying to be a preacher, so I went over there for an hour tutor session which really bailed me out and was much more informative than an email could have possibly been.  Ever consider going that route?

The instructor told me I'm supposed to figure the concepts out, that they're not something I could learn in a book. That didn't help. I'm looking for a tutor now. I don't want to drop the class since I've done all the tests and discussion assignments. It's worth 10% of the grade so it could sink me if I don't somehow get through it!

    Arrgh!

Don't freak, theoretically you could not turn it in at all and still make a 90% for the class.  Not a very helpful response from the instructor I agree, but do what you would in a "real world" situation and look for other resources.  Either way if your grades so far have been strong enough a 10% hit on your grade shouldn't be a pass/fail situation to where you would drop, even though it may feel like it.

I agree that 10% isn't worth dropping the course if you'd otherwise pass.  But it's also frustrating that your instructor was useless.  Accounting is a very difficult thing to pick up from a book.  I'd consider complaining to the administration if you don't feel satisfied.

Re: MKT 304 How To Get Help????

I got another reply from him today saying I had to use my experience and business acumen to figure it out because I couldn't learn what I need in order to do this exercise from a book. Thing is, I'm not a business major, I just took it to fulfill the business class requirement of the school I'm transferring to in January. In other words--I don't HAVE any business wits to follow!

I haven't had to complain about an instructor yet and I'm afraid he could sink me on the proctored exam. I'm gonna slog through it and go the tutor route. I just need to finish these 60 credits since I start at the new school Jan 26. I'm not taking any set program for an Associates, I'm going through the other portal called workplace development so I can pick and choose the credits for my transfer. Little did I think Marketing could be so hard on me!

Re: MKT 304 How To Get Help????

Sounds like a plan, getting a degree is a series of hoops and obstacles, an excercise in determination and sound work ethics and once in a while a trial of your patience.  From the instructor's perspective though, you are taking the class to learn the marketing aspect of business and even if you aren't a business major you are expected to learn it.  The good news is, getting a tutor is excercising business acumen if in no other way than using your cost vs. benefit analysis skills.

Fortunately, my father-in-law is a school teacher with a Masters in math. But I'll sure look twice beofre I sign up for a third year business class again!
