Interesting Incentive to enroll in ASU right now

Was looking at ASU's blog and found the following deal:

Apparently, if you enroll by Aug 27th and complete two courses (six credits hours) by Dec. 31, 2009, then you can take your pick of one of the following three "study enhancers" to help you with your higher education experience:

    • A Kindle 2, the portable 3G wireless reading device that holds 1,500 digital books at a time as well as top newspapers, magazines and blogs.
    • A Dell netbook, a compact, lightweight laptop computer designed for easy-access Web browsing and e-mail. You can use it almost anywhere to read lectures, do research or post ideas to class discussions.
    • One bonus credit hour at no cost - that’s a great savings as you get started on your degree.

Wow, those are some great gadgets that they are offering! The Kindle 2 and the Dell Netbook have the potential to connect you to the Internet 24/7. I wonder if other schools are going to start offering this like this now.

They're already doing a tuition free thing...how the heck can they afford to have giveaways and still remain financially solvent?  I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen a school with this unique of an approach to recruitment and I'm not being sarcastic or harsh, I'm truly in wonder ...Huh?

I think that there's so much margin in distance education that even schools with lower tuition rates can afford this sort of thing as a way to get attention.  A Kindle or netbook is only a few hundred dollars, compared with how much money they'll make off that student during their entire enrollment that's chickenfeed.
