    Social Science Bachelor's Degree

Has anyone here studied Social Science through Ashford?

I graduated with about a dozen of them, they sat in the row in front of me if I recall.  But I don't actually know anything about the program other than overhearing a few comments here and there.  I know, I'm no help at all right? Wink

Actually, Ashford gets recommended around here pretty frequently, and not just because Cajun's an alumnus. Smile

    Re: Social Science Bachelor's Degree

Some of the courses listed in the Social Sciences program really look great. I've noticed that Anthropology-related credits can be transferred towards this program, but am still unsure of whether I can take that as a concentration with that particular program. Ashford does  seem to be pretty well-recommended, so I've got it on my tentative list.

Ashford is usually pretty explicit with what you can have a concentration in on their website.  If you don't see it listed you can always ask an admissions rep.

Anyhow good luck on your search and let us know how everything turns out.

    Re: Social Science Bachelor's Degree

I am currently pursuing a Social Science Bachelor's degree from Ashford University.  I'm actually completing a variation of the degree; I'm majoring in Social Science with a concentration in Education and a minor in Public Administration.  I've attended Ashford since last August 2008 and I have nothing but great things to say!  I am a US veteran so I receive discounted tutition ($750 per course) and free books!Yes

I like the pace of the courses (5 week courses) and the fact that I can work full-time (local city government) and still attend school.  I am in North Texas and there are some great schools around (like Texas Woman's University) but they are much more expensive than Ashford.  I like moving at an accelerated pace and I'm due to graduate Dec. 2010. However, as with any online university, you must possess strong written communication skills.  You are required to compose 8-10 page papers every 5 weeks.  I don't mind writing, I've never received less than an 88% (lowest score EVER on a paper still got a 'A'  in the class though..lol) on any paper I've written. I've attended universities online and in-class and I've never come across any material that was incomprehensible.  That being said, Ashford is not necessarily "hard" but it does require discipline and you will not get an 'A' without working for it. Again, it's not hard (to me) but if you procrasinate you will have issues.

    Re: Social Science Bachelor's Degree

Hi Angelkisses, nice to see another North Texas Ashford grad (on the way in your case).  I think I'm the only guy out there with an Ashford bumper sticker in the southwest...(they give them away at graduation so probably not but they're rare).

Worst grade I ever received at Ashford?  A 36% on a paper.  That's right, a big fat "F".  So you really have to work if you enroll.

    Re: Social Science Bachelor's Degree

You know, Cajun, now that you mention it I don't have any school stickers on my car at all.  Charter Oak doesn't really send them out and I wasn't inclined to buy one from GW.  I haven't had a good chance to get one from ATSU either.  I guess school spirit isn't my strong suit!

Maybe you're attending the wrong schools.  Stick out tongue

    Logo merchandise

LOL, maybe!  A little while ago I actually thought about buying some ATSU gear, like a t-shirt and coffee mug and things like that, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Although, now that I think about it, I did get one piece of GW merchandise, a "GW Mom" coffee mug for my mom.  I didn't feel like I needed anything else from them, though, especially as I went straight from doing the Master's there to doing the doctorate at ATSU.

    Cajun,

Your Ashford experience has been very encouraging. Cool I've been lurking for awhile and because of your positive experience at Ashord I decided to attend last year. So thanks for the Ashford review!

You're welcome.  I hope they are as good for you as they were for me.  Good luck on your program.
