If you're in this position then the "icky" person would be your supervisor's supervisor? Would you have to have much to do with her in that case? Hopefully not, if she's horrible! -=Steve=-

Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...
Maybe I was kind of over-reacting because today she seemed more excited to talk to me and she actually called me over to her office (talkin' bout the supervisor's supervisor) and discussed the position more in depth and how she was excited to talk to me even more...we scheduled my interview tomorrow at 2pm (CST). It's crazy because I am actually interviewing people for my program all at the same time, but of course not during my interview time. Weird?? But I am really taking a risk here and if I get the position, people are going to get mindboggled that I stepped down... I think those are sacrifices that people can be willing to make to do what they love to do. I'm scared but I'm excited at the same time, because I would actually work with people and empower them professionally.

Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...
Cross your fingers!! I had the interview today for the Job Coach position and it went very very very well. I should know something, hopefully this week. I hope to get started pretty soon. I'm just excited about everything...my life is starting to unfold slowly but surely for greatness. The "supervisor's supervisor" was very nice and bubbly, something that I have never seen before. I thanked God for it and if it's meant to be then it will be for me. But I made it clear to them that I was made for the position, but either way the dial turned I was happy at this agency. They were so impressed with my delivery. So just keep me in your thoughts and prayers this week...I want this job and the hours of course...!

Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...
I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!! I am the new Career Counselor at my agency....man oh man, I am soooo thankful to God that I got this....I've been praying and praying and He has answered. I start next week and I am super excited. I have to cross train for the new supervisor and my position allll at the same time. AAAANNNNDDD....they're keeping my same pay (but full time and I will be on salary) + benefits!!! I am just stoked. I just been meditating on applying everything I've learned and I'm going to do all I can to ace this position and make myself proud. I can't wait to go shopping next week!!! (Yes, I am prissy, can't help it!) Thanks you guys for your support and prayers....I will definitely keep you updated, this is a great day!!

Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...
Searching for a job can be very stressful for many students nearing graduation. Unfortunately, all the education in the world doesn’t teach you how to go out and find the jobs you need and want after college, so you need to know where to look to land that dream job. When you know where to look for a job, the search simply becomes a process instead of something that will stress you out.
Many students make the mistake of taking time off after college; many simply go to their hometown with the idea that they’ll just take a couple months or weeks off before searching for a job. While you don’t have to jump right into the real world, you should start searching for jobs right away. Even for the most qualified candidate searching for and finding the right job can take some time that is why most students are encouraged to start searching for jobs long before graduation takes place. So, even if you do want to go home before taking that leap out into the real world, you should not delay looking for a job during this time.

The good news is that most schools have a career services department that will help guide students toward genuinely useful resources when it comes to casting themselves in the best light and looking for positions that might be right for them. -=Steve=-

Re: Job Search: Look during graduation? Or wait...
Cajun:Career services vary widely. State schools in my area are the worst at this, their idea of career services? A job fair held every 6 months or so or possibly an internship. Ironically the best career services I have seen to date are from a very well known, for profit, private university that advertises almost as much as University of Phoenix.... Devry.
Proprietary schools often pay attention to this because they know how much it affects word of mouth. I worked for a proprietary school that took career services seriously, and two non-profit schools one of which did essentially nothing and the other had a department that I'm not sure whether it was effective or not. -=Steve=-
