That is very useful information Steve. Thank you Yes . And yes, I am open to foreign universities. Kindly provide pointers towards that.

(I'm going to plagiarize myself from a recent thread about the Euclid Consortium, as the person making that enquiry had needs similar to yours. Smile)

There are a number of established universities in the developing world from which one can inexpensively get a doctorate by distance:

    • Just about any of the South African universities might work for this.  They're very inexpensive yet pretty well regarded.  In particular, the University of South Africa has a Doctor of Business Leadership program that may interest you.
    • You might also be interested in India's Indira Gandhi National Open University, which exists to do this sort of thing and does it well.  They even have a special handbook specifically for foreign PhD applicants.  They're on my own personal shortlist, actually.
    • There's also Russia's Far East National University, which has a comprehensive set of distance learning programs.  They do not require proficiency with the Russian language for many subjects, including Economics, Finance, World Economy, and Management Sociology, which are the closest to a DBA they seem to come).
I believe all of these are research-only programs, meaning that you wouldn't have more coursework to do, only write a thorough dissertation. One question is how receptive they will be toward your Master's coming from a nationally accredited school rather than a regionally accredited one.  South Africa has a notoriously bureaucratic process for foreign credential evaluation, a government agency called South Africa Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

    Any of this seem interesting?

Sri, PM means Private Message. On the top right corner, there is inbox. Get into that. Just like composing an email, you can write a PM to me, as I dont feel comfortable in divulging my contact details in an open internet forum. I hope you understand.

     Regards,

Steve, You are a great help. Thanks :)

As I have lived in South Africa, so I have more inclination towards SA.  Looks like this meets my objective. Thanks again.

    Regards, Singh.

    Re: Aspen University

Hi, I am about to start my first year of medical school in August. during my undergraduate career I earned degrees in Chemsitry and Marketing and would love to keep things like administration in the cards. I was wondering if completing an Independent Aspen online MBA was feasible at anytime during medical school?  I've heard some people say that each course requires 3-4 hrs a day while others say 1-2 hrs a night.  Also, when you are taking the math based courses, are there homework problems to do each night or simply for one big test at the end? I am excited b/c i've heard great things about Aspen, but am worried as to how time consuming taking one course will be.   Please let me know what your experience has been (maybe your daily or weekly routine when taking a class)  Thanks in advance!

    Re: Aspen University

Hi Tcp03! Personally, depending on the course, I spend about 1 or 2 hours a night for Aspen courses, and can usually afford to take a day or two off of my coursework during the week. Some courses are harder than others, though. I spent a good 3-4 hours a day, 7-days a week on Accounting because that course was more difficult for me.

As far as tests, the only test is the proctored exam at the end of the degree program. For math-related courses, problems are completed in each module and submitted through Excel.

If you can afford up to 3 hours a day (maybe less) of extra coursework, I think Aspen would be a great option for you.

I'd reconsider.  If you're in medical school and you have time for this you're either a supergenius or your medical school is substandard.  I've known medical school students, and they studied hard.

I second that. I do not think any med-school students in my country would be able to complete a master in addition to their primary study.

The only exception would be if the went 24/7 on ephedrine Zip it! , and that would seriously mess up their heads.....

(This last sentence should of course be considered a joke, and not a invitation to substance abuse)

A eLearner's user named Abner has a lot of good information in regard AU. I think he is graduating October this fall for his MBA in AU. He should be able to provide you some insight about AU and AU degree. I beleif he works for government agency and he had no problem with his AU BS degree at his employer. I had AU as my plan B before I was accepted by Cal State U grad school. I think AU has good reputations among DETC accredited universities.

An eLearner's user named Abner is a good information source for you in regard to Aspen University. I belief he is getting his MBA from AU this fall. He is working for a government agency and had no issue with his BS from AU and value of AU degree. Of course this all depends on your employer's view in DETC degree. In my opinion, AU is one of the best university with NA accreditaton.
