    Are you stressed?

I know that there are certain things that stress me out! Just for fun, I wanted to put this up to see what keeps others up at night (if I missed anything, let me know so I can add it!)

What is the biggest stressor in your life?

    • My job (36.8%)
    • My family (5.3%)
    • Domestic duties (honey-do list, pets, laundry...) (15.8%)
    • School (15.8%)
    • Bills (26.3%)

You need an option for NOTHING! Some people, like me, respond to stress by oversleeping.

    Re: Are you stressed?

Stress is a tool to motivate an individual like myself.  The problem lies when stress becomes out of control for an individual.  The only problem is that sometimes work over consumes me in stress but I absolutely love what I do.  So is it really considered stress or a hobby?  One might argue that my hobby is over consuming my family and places a great deal of stress on them.  Just some of my thoughts on the topic…  Stress is a negative and positive aspect depending on how one looks at it.  Smile

um strongly believe that stress is a serious problem that affect people around the world.

take for example that every year a lot of people take the desicion to kill themselves.

Im convinced that it´s important to  take care of yourself when you are feeling this way. Caring for yourself can take many forms- and you can customize your self care to exactly meet your needs.

    Re: Are you stressed?

well  In my opinion I can say that there are many factors that contribute to stress.the constant remembering of having to make ends meet, too much work, family's problems ,etc  makes a person  feel  so tired of everything.

I am convinced that one way to confront  the stress  is by doing something that  you enjoy most, take  for example in my case I Iove sports  such  as volleyball, basketball so sports and exercises are considered one of the best way to lower,in adittion exercise   keep people's  mind from thinking about their problems and makes people feel with a good attitude .other activities that could help eliminate stress are:  having a hobby, painting, etc

I advise you that don't let stress overcome you when you have  problems

    Re: Are you stressed?

I'm stressed.  Right now its my job.  Winter is drilling season (in western Canada), and that means working 11, 12 hours a day on call 24/7 7 days a week).  But I manage it.  I work out (natural endorphins.....), and keep one eye on break-up.  Spring hits, and we can't do anything for a month to 6 weeks.  Then we recover, play hard, and celebrate surviving another one.  Then we begin slowly gearing up for next winter.  Fortunately we know that there is an end.

Other things concern me, like the fact humanity has essentially put the current ecosystem on a collision course with extinction.  My kids will never see coral reefs like I've seen, wilderness is diminishing fast, resources being destroyed, etc.  Heck, a lot of great wilderness & natural experiences I've experienced I'll never experience again.  Can I stop this?  No.  Can I work to prevent it?  I can try.  So this is my number one worry, and I work to have positive results where I can through recycling, choosing low impact solutions, putting my donations to groups that work to preserve and conserve wilderness, and role model solutions.

Then my stress comes down to having my running/martial arts/tech diving/pick the past time partners edge me out.  NEVER!!! I say....

Play is the solution to all stress, at least for a few hours.  Have your mental & physical refuge.  Protect it.  Go to it regularly.

Interesting.  Well, if I'm ever in that position I'll see whether it stresses me too!

    Re: Are you stressed?

I would say that I don't get stressed but that's not true. For one thing, there are times that I create a self-imposed stress such as waiting until the last minute to do things like write a paper for class. This type of stress is a motivator for me. I feel I do my best work for some things under an imposed deadline. Especially when it comes to writing, if I start too early, I have a tendency to mess it up by over analyzing and second guessing myself.

On the other hand, there are times that I feel guilty when I have quite a few things to do, not enough hours in the day, and I want to take the time to spend some time with my daughter or go workout versus doing work. Thankfully, that's not often but taking two online classes is bringing this out in me now. I think it is because it is a lot of reading and writing involved with on visual or auditory interaction with anyone. This online format is very different from others I have taken. I just feel like I don't have any free time anymore for me because it's reading 3 or 4 chapters a week, plus web sites and discussion boards. I'm feeling a little disjointed but maybe after this semester, I'll be more comfortable.

I know what you're thinking, why don't you stop going to school for a while and take a break. Well, I did, and every now and then I ask myself the same question. I'm hoping that the classes I'm taking now will help me with a career transition. I am a veteran with a communication technician background. I'm trying to get into the corporate training environment as a web content developer or instructor. I may have to breakdown and be an elementary teacher first. I've substituted a little but I know that being a full-time teacher is much different.

    Re: Are you stressed?

The number one stresser at work is not the job itself so much as it is the instant response age were in.  If your deep into a project and someone phones or emails, they get impatient if the response is not immediate.  To maxamize the day I like to set aside 4 to 5 hours to do prints or update project files when in the office, then spend the rest of the day returning phone calls or answering emails.  I do listen to messages and preview the emails every hour or so in case an "emergency" comes in but 99% of day to day is the basic questions with no time line.

My boss has instituded the smart phones so we can receive messages when on the road or not infront of the PC (ie, getting some real work done.)  I guess it's the hurry up and wait syndrome coming out.

    Re: Are you stressed?

Boy isn't that the truth, frogman.  We have an instant message type program at work and if you don't respond to someone they just keep going hello? hello?  It makes you want to say, hey I am actually getting something done here, can you wait a sec?

    Re: Are you stressed?

I'll tell you the one thing that stresses me more than anything...my health. I'm disabled and have a ton of medical problems and I can tell you there are actually nights that I lie in bed and pray that God sees fit to allow me another day to spend with my family.

In the grand scheme of things I don't think I have any fatal diseases, yet I worry constantly.

I also worry about all that other stuff you had on your poll...with the exception of my job... I don't have one, so I guess I worry about not having a job. Wink

Cat, it could be worse.  I recommend if possible you spend a few days volunteering at a children's hospital.  Kids love cops and my department will occasionally go and decorate a Christmas tree with badges, etc. then we donate gifts and things.  I'm a coward though and I've never really gone and met any of the kids.  I watched my mother in law fight and ultimately succumb to cancer, I can't bear to see a 5 year old doing that.  I think it'd be the final straw and I'd just break down right then and there.
