Yes and I don't intend to take advantage of it.  I work for Southeastern University, where as of next January I could attend free, but by then I'll have finished up at George Washington, so it doesn't do me any good.

If I haven't gotten started with doctoral work, I may take graduate level Finance courses here, though, as that's the subject where it's hardest for schools to find online adjuncts.  (Even though my Master's will be in Education, the rule is that one can teach any subject in which one has 18 graduate level credit-hours.)

Many employers in the Fortune 1000 offer different forms of tuition reimbursement. In the past, I have worked on numerous enterprise corporate portals and in their HR section, there was almost always a section on tuition reimbursement. I encourage everyone to find out what your current employer offers in the form of tuition reimbursement. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Since this thread started I've come to work for Marymount University, but they don't have doctoral programs either, so the situation is otherwise unchanged. :)

The United States Navy offers up to $65,000 tuition reimbursement. Throughout Active Duty they will pay 100% of tuition costs for any active duty sailor. Also, the Montgomery GI Bill will pay $37,000 for up to ten years after your enlistment. This can be credited $15,000 extra if you are accepted for the Navy College fund.

And because I'm sure most of you are enterprising men and women... If you're accepted to an advanced field (say the Nuclear Field, as I have been) you can get college credit (up to 77 hours in my case) just for having advanced training...

The Air Force for Active Duty offers $4500 a year and pays for no more than $250 a credit hour. If your taking distance learning classes it usually doesn't go to far.

That would be 18 credits per year.  Better than a kick in the head.  If one attends a less expensive school, say Peru State which is $157 per credit, would the $4500 annual limit still apply, and thus the Air Force would pay for up to 28 credits per year?

You have a point some free money is better than no money. Yes the $4500 a year will still apply. Would you happen to know how long the courses at Peru State are? In my situation I prefer to take classes that are shorter in length, they are usually more expensive. Also a lot of schools offer military tuition discounts.

My employer offers tuition reimbursement—thank goodness! I'm taking a class at the University of North Carolina right now, and the tuition fees are twice as much for non-residents as it is for residents. I wouldn't be able to even consider the course if it weren't for tuition reimbursement.

Yes, the AF tends to cover a great deal of it.  Plus you can take CLEPS for free. Can't beet a 2 hour test to earn 3-6 credits then taking 12 weeks or more to earn the same through a class. Smile

Absolutley -- CLEP is a great way of getting credit that more people should consider.
