PLEASE advice me....
Hey, At first, thanks for looking my thread. Im 22 yrs old student from south-east asia. I have completed my high school & now doing BSc. in Material Science. But now, I lost my interested to study in MS. Actually I wanted to study Computer Science or Telecommunications. So, After successfully completing my 1st year in MS, I'd like to switch over Online BSc. degree from a reputed university. BTW, Im extremely good in computer & good at making programs, websites, designs etc.(8 years exprience) thats why I want to study CS to buildup my future. Now, I cant choose a good University which is reputed aswell as cheap to study over online for international students. 1. Would you please suggest me a good university? 2. Is there any posibillity to study less credits by showing my 1st year mark-sheet? Thanks in advance for your input! :-]

Wait. Which one are you saying: 1. You ARE doing a Bachelor's program now. 2. You DID do a Bachelor's and completed it, and ARE doing a Master's program now. I think you mean the second one, so I'll answer that question: No, you are unlikely to be able to transfer a significant amount of credit from one Master's program to another, especially one in a different field. As for which schools you should consider, well, there are many universities that have IT programs available at a distance that welcome international students. When you say "cheaply", how cheap do you mean? How much do you want to pay for your Master's program? Would you prefer the university be based in any particular country? How you answer these questions will affect what I'd recommend. -=Steve=-

Thanks Steve for your reply. Sorry for the confusion! I mean
the first one! Im doing BSc. in MS (Material Science) but I dont want
to continue anymore. So, Im looking for a BSc degree over online and
want to transfer my 1st year credit if possible! SteveFoerster:When you say "cheaply", how cheap do you

Actually Im looking for a average/good university with compatibility cheap/reasonable tution fee. I prefer USA/CA for my degree.

kcdpas: Cajun:I'm having a tough time as well. By "MS" do you mean Material Science? In which case are you looking for a BS or BA or BSc in Computer Science? If that is the case what is your budget in U.S. dollars? I ask because you will not likely qualify for student aid in the States.
Yeah, the price tag would be high. Paying none resident tuition with USD would put a lot of foreign student out of the picture.
Thanks for your input! I'm not sure "high" means how much! But It wont hurt me to pay $6000/yr for my tuition as I'm self employed & earn from online.

Usually Peru State comes to mind when I think of an inexpensive school that is RA, http://www.peru.edu/online/index.htm#.htm but they do not have a computer science degree strictly speaking, rather a BS in Business Administration with a computer science emphasis. However Fort Hays State University is also very inexpensive, RA and they do have a computer science degree. So check them out http://www.elearners.com/college/fhsu/ Or you can try the slightly more expensive American Public University which at $250 an hour isn't bad. How's that for a start?

Thanks for the information! About Peru State, there is a course Computer and Management Information Systems (CMIS) which is 125 credit hours. ($157.00/hour) About Fort Hays State University, I think they are not offering CS at this moment. About American Public University, they do have CS which is 122 semester hours ($250/semester hour) I found another one which is American Sentinel University offering CS (US$180/hour - total 120 hours), is this good enough?! So, I have to pay around $19000 to $30000 to complete my BSc?! I have to pay at a time or before every semester?! How much time it will take to complete my degree or its totally depends upon me?! Looking for more suggestions!
Thanks!

You seem to have pretty much got it. By the way, Fort Hays does have a CS degree online, see http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/degrees/bachelors/index.htm also you may want to consider the least expensive since all of the schools are pretty much equal more or less in their respective reputations except that American Sentinel is DETC accredited, which while is okay for the U.S. you may want to double check that it is okay in your country.
Yes, almost to a man the schools will require upfront payment .

Oh, I see. Yes, that may be possible. When you contact schools, ask about their process for international transfer credit. They'll probably direct you to have your transcript sent to an evaluator like WES or AACRAO. You may not necessarily get a whole year's worth of credit, but hopefully it will be better than nothing.

Thanks! I found few institutions which are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) NO1 >> Cleveland Institute of Electronics
(CIE) URL: http://www.cie-wc.edu/Distance-Learning.asp CIE offering Computer Information Systems Bachelor's Degree, which looks good. They offer "Pay only for the time you use!" If I complete all the lessons and labs in 12 months, my Bachelor's
degree will cost $3,540 only. If it takes 24 months, then tuition
will cost $7,080, and so on. So, thats a very good plan with 0% Financing option. What you guys think?!
No2>>Ashworth University URL: http://www.ashworthuniversity.edu
They are offering associate degree in Computer Information Management. So, its not Bachelor degree but yet a good option. No3>> Penn Foster College URL: http://www.pennfostercollege.edu They also have Computer Information Systems but its also associate degree. Till now, I found these universities which are DETC accredited with cheap cost. Do you think they are good or not?! Which one you prefer the most?! Thank you!

DETC has done a good job providing a reasonable level of oversight to inexpensive schools that serve populations that might otherwise not have access to quality distance learning. So long as you confirm that this level of accreditation meets your needs, I see no reason not to go with a school accredited by DETC. The only drawback is that you options for further study may be limited, in that schools with the higher level of accreditation may not accept a DETC accredited program as fulfilling entry requirements. However, while you'd have fewer options, it's not like you wouldn't have any -- an increasing number of schools accept these qualifications as they would any other.
