Dear Penn Foster Student,

Welcome to Penn Foster College. Your decision to enroll with us marks an important step on your path to success. You have chosen an institution that has been helping independent learners succeed since 1890, and you can be assured that we will help you, too.

This Catalog and Student Handbook contains information that you will need to know, from a statement of our mission and the outcomes you can expect from your Penn Foster education, to a description of policies and procedures that will guide your study, to learning support services available to you, and to an explanation of our accredited degree programs and courses. Please spend some time in reading this document, and be sure to keep it handy as a reference tool throughout your program. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.

We are committed to your success.

Best wishes,
Dr. Richard W. Ferrin
President

More About Penn Foster College

"In 1890, a newspaperman named Thomas J. Foster was the first to recognize that working adults with ambition needed a more convenient way to learn advanced skills. He developed the distance-learning method as a way of helping anthracite coal miners become mine superintendents and foremen."

Since then Penn Foster College has grown, with millions of graduates who have successfully completed the distance learning academic programs offered by Penn Foster. Penn Foster College is nationally accredited by DETC, the Distance Education and Training Council, and has been accredited by them since 1957.

I have to make a complaint against your repeated, almost daily emails and the phone calls that your college has been making to my house, badgering me and my family. It really does not represent your institution in a respectable way. Someone called me the day after I signed up for some additional information on your site, demanding that I make a decision right then - threatening that I had to tell them right away whether I expect to attend. That is inappropriate and does not encourage me to be involved in your classes! - In signing up with your institution I expected that I might receive a packet in the mail fully explaining what you offer and allowing me to consider my options. I could in no way "give you an answer" right away not even knowing what you offer! Please apologize for this treatment and please remove my phone number from your list of daily badgering!
