My Penn Foster College Experience

This is Terry's account of how he got started at Penn Foster College, as well as his ongoing studies towards his online Marketing degree. Read about the various pitfalls of balancing homework with family, as well as his two jobs, personal life, and volunteer work.

Sharing My Report Card

For the past week or so I’ve been impatiently waiting to begin my second semester at Penn Foster College.  Enrolling in the second semester is a bit different than enrolling for the first.  When I started the first semester, I enrolled online, made my down payment by credit card, and had instant access to my student account.  My books arrived a few days later and I had to mail a copy of my high school diploma to Penn Foster College.  To enroll in the second semester, I had to mail my enrollment form and payment because there is no way to enroll in the second semester online.  That was over a week ago, and I’m still waiting to begin.

Today, I received a piece of mail from Penn Foster College.  Initially, I thought it was something related to my second semester of courses.  Instead, it was the transcript for my first semester at Penn Foster.  It looks a lot like the report card my son gets from his high school.

The transcript is pretty straightforward.  It lists the courses I took during the first semester, along with the grades and credits I received.  According to the transcript, I earned 17 credits during the first semester.  I received 3 A’s and 4 B’s.  I got the A’s in Information Literacy, Introduction to Business and Principles of Marketing.   I received B’s for Business Orientation, Mathematics for Business and Finance, Principles of Management and English Composition.  Each course was also awarded “quality points” which I assume are something like grade point averages.  If that is the case, then my grade point average is 3.41.

Overall, I am pleased with my grades for the first semester.  If I can turn in a similar performance for the next three semesters, I’ll actually graduate from Penn Foster College with honors (a grade point average of 3.4 or better).  My credit card number hasn’t been processed by PFC yet, so I’m assuming it will be awhile yet before I see the study guide and text book for my next course.  To be honest, I’m not sure what my next course is.  I can’t find my original student handbook, and the program has changed a bit since I first enrolled.  I guess it will be a surprise!

Whatever it is, I’m ready.
