The number of Penn Foster students in my family is about to
double. After watching me study with Penn
Foster College
for the past couple years, my wife has decided to take the plunge and enroll
herself.
She and an acquaintance of hers plan to start a catering
business together. Although my wife has
years of experience working in the restaurant and catering industry, she feels
having some credentials to back that up will help her launch her business. She also wants to find out what it is she
doesn’t know about the business, so she has decided to enroll in the catering
program at Penn Foster
Career School. At the completion of this program, students
are awarded a diploma. Penn
Foster Career School
is regionally accredited.
My wife home schools our 12-year-old son, so distance
learning is really the only avenue available to her. There are some vocational-technical schools
in the area where we live which offer the same types of programs, but PFC is
actually lower in cost and will fit her busy schedule at home. What she likes about the Penn Foster program
is that not only are the text books included with the courses, but they also
provide videos which show how to cook some gourmet meals. I am looking forward to eating the
homework!
She plans to enroll in about a month or so, after we have
paid for our family vacation. The
payment plans are the same as with the degree programs…a small down payment
followed by monthly, interest-free payments.
My wife is a high school graduate and never went on to any secondary
education, so this is an exciting chapter in her life. Finally, I will have a “study buddy” who also
attends Penn Foster!
It will be most interesting to me to see how the Penn Foster
career diploma will benefit my wife when she starts applying it to her
fledgling business. She and her partner
have had one paying job so far, and they do enjoy this line of work. If anything, I’m hoping the Penn Foster
program will teach my wife a bit more about the “business” side of the catering
business.
So, from now on, not only will I be able to report on my
progress in the Penn Foster
College degree program, but my wife’s
progress in the Penn Foster career diploma program as well!
