It seems I’m not the only one blogging about the virtues of Penn
Foster College. There are others who are also sounding off
about this distance education leader and they have a blog of their own.
So who are these people trampling on my turf? Well, not to worry…it turns out it’s Penn
Foster College. They have finally decided to add a blog to
their own web site to, in their words, “interact with our visitors and be a
major contributor of engaging topics including real-world student thoughts and
experiences, distance education trends, online learning opportunities and
education in general.” Cool!
I see this as a positive step for Penn
Foster College. I hope their blog will be a sounding board
where current and prospective students, as well as alumni, can share their
experiences to help students who are thinking of enrolling, those who have
already entered a PFC program, and for students who are graduating and
wondering how their PFC degree or vocational diploma will be accepted in the
marketplace. Hey, I’m only one guy. Like I said before, I’m probably a good
example of how NOT to work through a distance learning program, but I’m
improving all the time!
The Penn Foster
College blog is just starting out,
so it’s a little light on posts and visitor comments. I’m assuming a PFC staff member is writing
their posts, but I hope they will include posts from students as well. Who better to answer questions from a student
perspective?
There is actually another resource where those who want to
learn more about Penn Foster
College from a student’s point of
view can turn to. It’s a Yahoo Group
founded by a Penn Foster
College alumnus. I post there occasionally…mostly questions…and
the students there are friendly and helpful.
The files section of the group is a gold mine of information about how
to study for certain exams and what to expect during certain assignments. You can even view photos of what a Penn
Foster College
degree actually looks like. You must
have a Yahoo ID and join the group, but it’s worth it. It is the most interaction I have had with
other Penn Foster students.
I hope Penn Foster
College will actually borrow a page
from the Yahoo group and start a message board of its own where students can
ask questions, interact with instructors and perhaps even hold group
discussions about certain courses and assignments.
The blog is a good first step.
