I have finally reached the final assignment in my first
semester at Penn Foster College. I have to admit, there were times I never
thought I would see this day. Seven day
work weeks, medical problems, family emergencies…they have all combined to
stretch this out to what must be the longest semester of college ever.
I have turned in my reflective writing essay. I have to admit I always doubt myself a
little when I submit these essays to the instructor. I think the writing is good, but I’m never
quite sure if it is what they are looking for and if it meets all the
requirements of the assignment. There
are so many different areas in which they can deduct points.
My essay turned into a 1,200 word account of going through
my parent’s divorce. The assignment was
supposed to focus on an “aha” moment
in which I learned something. The thing
I learned is that despite the ugliness of their divorce, my parents don’t
actually hate each other, but they can’t live together, either. I think it is the experience of living
through my parent’s divorce that has motivated me to work to make my marriage a
success. My wife and I have been married
about 18 years now.
My next assignment is the persuasive essay. I’m am just beginning the required reading
for this course, but I think of all the essays I have had to write this is the
one I am looking forward to the most. I
am used to giving my opinion and stating facts to back it up…something I attribute
to my years in radio broadcasting…so I think I’ll do very well at this
assignment. The persuasive essay also
doubles as my final exam in English Composition.
I’ll have to do double-duty for the next week or so…working
on my persuasive essay and studying for my semester finals at the same
time. As soon as I turn in my final
essay and it is graded, it will be time to take my semester finals. Depending on how I do on my exams, I should
be starting my next semester sometime in November.
