I realize that our country is in a recession, but if stores
keep putting Christmas merchandise out before Halloween is even over, I just
may take a hostage! Correct me if I’m wrong, but it is November right? As I was
walking through the grocery store today (actually I was riding in an electric
cart due to some foot surgery) I started humming along with the song playing on
the loud speaker when suddenly I realized that I was singing White Christmas.
What happened to Thanksgiving??? For years I’ve been complaining about the Christmas products
being put on display earlier and earlier, but the Christmas music usually
starts the day after Thanksgiving.
This year I noticed that Home Depot had
their Christmas décor out before Halloween. As a matter of fact, I went there
to find some Halloween decorations, because they usually have cool ones, but the
girl told me that they didn’t get any this year, they were replaced with Christmas
ones instead.
My son, who works for Walgreen’s, told me that they were
ordering their Christmas stock in July because the larger chains usually buy
out stock and leave stores like theirs short on supply. Thankfully his store
didn’t put out Christmas stuff until November 1st and I have yet to hear a Christmas Carol.
So I ask you, what happened to Turkey Day? What happened to
celebrating the first Thanksgiving between the Pilgrims and the Indians? What
happened to celebrating the autumn colors, and the falling leaves?
For some reason it seems as though this year we’ve gone
straight from summer into winter and I must say, I really miss the fall.
