The signs of spring are in the air. I know this because
everyone in my family keeps waking up with an itchy throat and a tickle in
their nose. However, I refuse to let that ruin my sunny disposition.
Yesterday I decided to take advantage of the beautiful
spring day by taking my son’s science class outside. We’re currently studying
observation and our five senses. The project yesterday was to write down
fifteen things we observed about a tree and which senses we used to observe
them. Initially my son and I stepped outside and looked around the neighborhood
for a tree, but then I thought, what a great day for a walk, so we took one and
did science on the road. Since my husband works less than a mile away from
here, we made our way to his job and met up with him for lunch. I must say, it
was a very nice way to learn.
A little over a year ago, my family lost one of our beloved
pets, Sara. She was 11 years old, but suffered from a cancer that couldn’t be
cured. Sara was my husband’s baby girl. She adored him and he adored her right
back. They became bonded when we made a move across country and she got lost in
a hotel room in Wisconsin. We had
no choice but to leave without her, but five hours later we found out that the
hotel staff found her. My husband turned the car around while I headed onto the
east coast in the moving truck. We made plans to meet up later on that night at
a hotel. The man drove through two states to pick her up and bring her back to
us, and from that moment on Sara was completely indebted to him. Their bond was
truly beautiful. When Sara passed away my husband planted some white daffodils
over her grave and when we moved he took dug up some of the bulbs and planted
them here. He’s been worried that they wouldn’t grow, but this morning as I was
enjoying my cup of coffee outside I saw the first sprout of Sara’s flowers make
its way through the soil.
It’s 8:30am here
in Oklahoma and so far, it’s been
an incredible spring day. I hope you take the time (and don’t forget to use
your five senses) to enjoy your spring day.
